Job summary

Orica in the Philippines is seeking a Legal Counsel to join the Global Business Services team. You will review, assess, and manage commercial contracts across the global business, providing practical legal guidance and identifying contractual risks.

The role operates on a hybrid basis (2x onsite weekly) at the BGC office, and offers opportunities to collaborate with stakeholders across regions while developing your career in a world-class organisation.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Law is required.
• Experience reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts in a corporate environment.
• Post-qualification legal experience or equivalent practical experience within a legal or contracts function.
• Strong English drafting and communication skills, and willingness to learn AI tools.

About the role:

We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for the position of Legal Counsel to join our Global Business Services team in the Philippines.

In this role, you'll play a critical part in helping Orica operate with confidence and integrity by supporting the review, assessment, and management of commercial contracts across our global business. Working closely with stakeholders from different regions, you'll provide practical legal guidance, identify contractual risks, and help ensure commercial agreements align with Orica's standards, policies, and governance requirements.

The role will operate on a hybrid setup (2x a week onsite) in our BGC office.

What you will be doing:

• Review a broad range of commercial agreements, including customer contracts, supplier agreements, confidentiality agreements, service level agreements, variation agreements, collaboration agreements, research and development agreements, and settlement deeds.
• Identify contractual risks and departures from approved templates and standards.
• Provide timely, practical, and high-quality contract review support to business stakeholders globally.
• Support business decision-making by highlighting legal and commercial considerations.

Governance & Compliance

• Help ensure commercial contracts align with Orica's approved templates, policies, and governance requirements.
• Escalate and communicate contract deviations for appropriate review and approval.
• Support the ongoing maintenance and improvement of legal templates and contract management practices.
• Contribute to a strong culture of compliance, risk awareness, and governance excellence.

Stakeholder Partnership

• Build strong relationships with business stakeholders across multiple regions and functions.
• Work collaboratively with the Legal & Governance team to support business priorities.
• Deliver clear, commercially focused advice that balances legal risk with operational outcomes.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives, including the use of technology and AI-enabled tools to drive efficiency and consistency.

What you will bring:

• A tertiary qualification in Law is required.
• Experience reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts in a corporate or commercial environment.
• Post-qualification legal experience or equivalent practical experience within a legal or contracts function.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills.
• Strong English skills in drafting and communication, and experience with AI legal tools (or willingness to learn).
• Ability to work effectively with stakeholders across different regions and cultures.
• High attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
