Acestar International Services Corp. is seeking a Part-Time Legal Consultant with strong freight forwarding, shipping, and logistics experience.

The role focuses on cargo claims, shipping documentation, contracts, disputes, and regulatory compliance to support day-to-day operations. The candidate will review documents such as Bills of Lading, Air Waybills, and commercial invoices, provide timely advice, and help minimize legal and financial risks for the company.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Law or equivalent.
• Licensed/Bar-admitted lawyer in the relevant jurisdiction.
• 3–5 years of relevant legal experience in freight forwarding, shipping, logistics, transportation, insurance, or commercial law.
• Strong practical knowledge of cargo claims and freight-related disputes.
• Experience reviewing and drafting commercial contracts and service agreements.
• Good understanding of liability issues involving freight forwarders, carriers, shipping lines, trucking companies, warehouses, and other logistics providers.

Responsibilities

• Review, prepare, and provide legal guidance on freight forwarding and shipping-related documents, agreements, and contracts.
• Handle and provide legal advice on cargo loss, damage, delay, shortage, and other freight claims.
• Review claims documentation (Bills of Lading, Air Waybills, delivery receipts, invoices, packing lists, insurance docs).
• Assess the company's legal position in relation to customer, carrier, shipping line, trucking, warehouse, and other third-party claims.
• Assist in responding to customer claims, carrier claims, insurance claims, demand letters, and legal notices.
• Review and advise on contracts with customers, carriers, agents, brokers, trucking companies, warehouses, and other service providers.
• Identify potential legal risks and recommend actions to protect company interests.
• Assist in negotiating settlements and resolving disputes involving freight, cargo, payment, service, or contractual issues.
• Ensure documents and practices align with applicable shipping, transportation, commercial, and corporate laws.
• Maintain records of legal cases, claims, contracts, correspondence, and supporting documents.
• Coordinate with external lawyers, insurers, shipping lines, carriers, and other parties as needed.
• Provide practical legal advice to management and operations teams regarding day-to-day freight and logistics transactions.
• Assist management in developing or improving standard terms and conditions, claim procedures, contracts, and legal documentation.
• Monitor significant legal developments affecting freight forwarding and logistics operations.

We are looking for a Part-Time Legal Condsultant professional with strong experience in the freight forwarding, shipping, logistics, and transportation industry. The successful candidate will provide legal support and guidance on day-to-day business operations, with particular focus on cargo claims, shipping documentation, contracts, disputes, and legal matters related to freight transportation.

• Good understanding of shipping and freight documentation, including:

• Experience reviewing and drafting commercial contracts and service agreements.

• Strong analytical, negotiation, documentation, and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and provide practical legal advice with minimal supervision.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to assess legal and commercial risks.

Preferred / Advantageous

• Previous experience working with a freight forwarding, NVOCC, shipping line, logistics, or transportation company.

• Experience handling cargo damage, cargo loss, shortage, delay, misdelivery, abandonment, and related claims.

• Knowledge of marine cargo insurance and insurance claims.

• Familiarity with international freight and shipping practices and commonly used industry terms.

• Experience dealing with customs-related, port, warehouse, trucking, and delivery disputes.

• Familiarity with international shipping conventions, industry rules, and standard trading terms such as Incoterms.

• Experience negotiating settlements with customers, carriers, insurers, and other parties.
