Job summary

Avis Budget Group is seeking a firmware engineering lead to join our telematics team and oversee in-vehicle firmware and backend integration. This role involves driving hardware, firmware and software collaboration to deliver connected car solutions across RF, Bluetooth and CAN networks.

You will interact with manufacturing partners, guide regulatory certifications, and shape end-to-end device development, from requirements through production deployment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• Experience with vehicle OBD and CAN stack.
• Experience with cellular, Bluetooth, and RFID.
• Ability to work with hardware technicians and suppliers.

Zipcar is looking for a firmware engineering lead to join our telematics team. This person will be working on the firmware that operates our in-vehicle telematics unit, including cellular network communications, Bluetooth and CAN bus communications to the car.

What You’ll Do:

• Work with the team to set quarterly departmental goals and metrics for the team.
• Experience with vehicle OBD and CAN stack
• Identify and evaluate potential partners for telematics solutions and opportunities that mitigate risk and align with the business
• Able to be the technical point of contact for multiple onshore manufacturing partners
• Experience with getting FCC, PTCRB and UK/EU RF regulatory certification for connected devices
• Ability to architect hardware, firmware and backend technologies to solve business problems
• Experience with proposing, designing and developing end-to-end connected devices involving RF, Embedded and connected products
• Provide full lifecycle software development, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, production deployment, documentation
• Experience with technologies such as RFID, Wireless 3G/4G, Bluetooth
• Able to creatively solve business problems using pre-existing technologies
• Able to solve both short term and long-term business problems
• Technical experience with automotive grade devices to ensure safety of our products
• Able to work with technicians on custom cables and manufacturing of cables and harnesses
• Ability to manage test engineering for connected devices
• Ability to get buy-in on solutions f
