Lead Accountant / Controller | Multi-Entity Accounting

Work Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Eastern Time

Compensation: $2,500–$3,500/month, with flexibility for exceptional candidates

About the Role

We’re looking for a hands‑on Controller to oversee accounting operations across multiple business entities within a growing organization expanding through strategic acquisitions.

This role will own the month-end close, financial reporting, consolidations, and cash flow management while standardizing accounting processes and strengthening financial controls.

The ideal candidate is technically strong, comfortable working independently, and able to improve existing workflows while supporting a growing team.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the monthly close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP
• Manage multi-entity accounting, consolidations, intercompany transactions, and eliminations
• Standardize charts of accounts, closing procedures, and reporting processes across entities
• Oversee payroll accounting entries, labor allocations, and related reconciliations
• Monitor cash flow, support customer collections, and prepare weekly cash forecasts
• Troubleshoot accounting systems and workflows, improving data accuracy and operational efficiency
• Support the integration of newly acquired businesses into established accounting processes
• Train and support accounting team members while partnering with leadership on financial performance

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands‑on month‑end close ownership
• Previous experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or equivalent
• Strong US GAAP knowledge and experience with financial reporting and reconciliations
• Proven experience in multi‑entity accounting, consolidations, and intercompany transactions
• Experience with payroll accounting, labor allocations, and cash flow forecasting
• Strong Excel skills and experience managing high volumes of financial data
• Ability to work independently, improve processes, and manage changing priorities
• Strong communication skills and experience supporting or training accounting teams

Nice to Have

• QuickBooks Online or comparable accounting software experience
• Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now or similar payroll systems
• Acquisition integration or multi‑business process standardization experience
• CPA or other relevant accounting certification
