Job summary

We seek an experienced Landscape Estimator (Hardscape & Softscape) to work full-time from home, aligned to New Zealand business hours, supporting a commercial landscaping client that serves education, residential, retirement, commercial and industrial sectors.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of estimating experience in landscaping, civil construction or related trades.
• Strong knowledge of hardscape and/or softscape materials and methods.
• Experience interpreting drawings, specs and tender docs.
• Proven experience with quantity take-offs, BOQs and cost estimates.
• Understanding of material costs, labour productivity and subcontractor pricing.
• Proficiency in estimating software and Excel pricing models.
• Good command of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Excellent numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
• Attention to detail and commercial awareness.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and with teams.

Responsibilities

• Review construction drawings, specs and tender docs.
• Undertake quantity take-offs and prepare detailed BOQs.
• Prepare cost estimates for materials, labour, plant, equipment and subcontractors.
• Estimate hardscape works (paving, concrete, pathways, walls, drainage) and softscape works (soil prep, planting, sprinkler, turfing).
• Use and maintain pricing models, estimating templates and cost libraries.
• Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Identify pricing discrepancies, omissions, assumptions and risks.
• Review tender amendments and update estimates.
• Assist with variation pricing, tender reviews and cost analysis.
• Collaborate with Commercial and Operations teams to ensure estimates are accurate and viable.
• Manage multiple tenders and meet deadlines with accuracy.

We are looking for an experienced Landscape Estimator (Hardscape & Softscape) to join our team and work full-time from home, during New Zealand business hours, supporting one of our clients – an established New Zealand commercial landscaping business delivering high-quality outdoor environments across the education, residential, retirement, commercial and industrial sectors.

Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced Landscape Estimator to join its Commercial team. The successful candidate will prepare accurate and commercially competitive estimates for a variety of commercial and residential landscaping projects, covering both hardscape and softscape construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Review construction drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Undertake quantity take-offs and prepare detailed bills of quantities (BOQs).
• Prepare cost estimates covering materials, labour, plant, equipment and subcontractors.
• Estimate hardscape works, including paving, concrete, pathways, kerbing, retaining walls, drainage and landscape structures.
• Estimate softscape works, including soil preparation, planting, turfing, irrigation, mulching and garden establishment.
• Use and maintain company pricing models, estimating templates and cost libraries.
• Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Identify pricing discrepancies, omissions, assumptions and potential commercial risks.
• Review tender amendments and update estimates accordingly.
• Assist with variation pricing, tender reviews and historical cost analysis.
• Collaborate with Commercial and Operations teams to ensure estimates are accurate and commercially viable.
• Manage multiple tenders and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy.

Requirements

Essential Requirements

• Minimum 2 years' relevant estimating experience in landscaping, civil construction or associated trades.
• Good knowledge of hardscape and/or softscape materials, construction methods and labour requirements.
• Experience interpreting construction drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Proven experience with quantity take-offs, BOQs and detailed cost estimates.
• Understanding of material costs, labour productivity, plant requirements and subcontractor pricing.
• Proficiency in estimating software, quantity take-off tools and Excel pricing models.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Excellent numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commercial awareness.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and competing deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal teams, suppliers and subcontractors.
• Practical understanding of how landscaping and outdoor construction projects are delivered.

Desirable but Not Essential

• Experience estimating both hardscape and softscape projects.
• Previous experience with New Zealand-based construction or landscaping companies.
• Familiarity with Groundplan or similar quantity take-off software.
• Knowledge of drainage, irrigation and stormwater systems.
• Experience with commercial tender submissions, variation pricing and project cost reviews.
• Familiarity with construction procurement and subcontractor pricing processes.
