The Kitchen Helper works on the frontlines of the cafeteria interacting with cooks, waiters, bartenders, and sometimes customers. Part of a larger food preparation, the kitchen helper works in a fast-paced and sometimes demanding environment helping to prepare delicious meals.
The Kitchen Helper performs a wide range of duties in the fast-moving kitchen often assisting head chef and cooks with various aspects of meal preparation ensuring smooth operation of the kitchen.
- Responsible for preparing ingredients prior to meal service, such as chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or cleaning seafood
- Help cooks with kitchen tasks during peak hours
- Comply with food preparation standard practices and procedures
- Stock inventory properly with details and labels
- Ensure that raw materials/food is stored in proper containers and at proper storage and freezer temperatures; adhere to food, health, and safety regulations at all times
- Measure ingredients required for specific food items being prepared
- Assist the head cook in cooking dishes according to set recipes
- Assist in keeping the kitchen clean and tidy at all times
- Dispose of trash and waste as per canteen safety protocol
- Works quickly while paying attention to multiple responsibilities at a time
- Work safely around kitchen equipment and report any maintenance issues to the Manager
- Other tasks that may be assigned by Management from time to time
- At least High School graduate
- Preferably with culinary training/experience
- Previous experience as a kitchen helper or similar role
- On-the-job training from chefs and restaurant owners
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations
- Experience in basic food handling and preparation skills
- Efficient, energetic
- Able to multi-task
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Responsive to changes
