Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience managing production Kafka clusters.
• Experience with Schema Registry, Kafka Connect, MirrorMaker 2, or Confluent tools.
• Proficiency with Terraform or Ansible for IaC.
• Strong Linux/Unix administration and distributed systems networking.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, or EFK stack and Kafka security protocols.
• Willingness to join a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

About the role

We are seeking a Kafka Engineer to support and administer our Kafka Platform Service (KPS) within the IT Operations Middleware team. In this role, you will focus on deploying, operating, and maintaining enterprise-grade event streaming infrastructure to ensure high reliability, scalability, and security. You will collaborate closely with Application Development, Enterprise Architecture, and Technology Managers to drive a robust event-driven ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, operate, and optimize production Apache Kafka clusters across multi-environment infrastructures, including broker configurations, topic management, and Access Control Lists (ACLs)
• Drive performance tuning, capacity planning, and continuous enhancements to the Kafka platform to ensure high availability and zero downtime
• Develop and maintain automated provisioning, configuration, and operational scripts using Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, BitBucket, Rundeck)
• Partner with application development teams to onboard new event producers and consumers onto the platform, contributing to the Event Catalog and Subscription API
• Maintain observability using Prometheus, Grafana, and EFK stack (Elasticsearch, Fluentd, Kibana). Troubleshoot Kafka platform issues rapidly and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for critical applications
• Enforce data governance and internal security compliance, managing TLS encryption, SASL-SCRAM authentication, and authorization policies
• Maintain detailed operational runbooks, architecture standards, and procedure documentation

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
• Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience managing and deploying production Apache Kafka clusters or similar event streaming platforms
• Hands-on experience with Schema Registry, Kafka Connect, MirrorMaker 2, or Confluent Platform tools
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible
• Solid background in Linux/Unix administration and distributed system networking principles
• Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, or EFK stack, alongside Kafka security protocols (TLS, SASL-SCRAM, ACLs)
• Familiarity with CI/CD automation pipelines and willingness to join a 24/7 on-call rotation supporting production systems
