Job summary

SM Investments seeks an Investments and Planning Analyst for its Corporate Private Equity and Venture Capital initiatives. The role spans the full investment cycle—from market mapping to due diligence, financial modeling, and portfolio monitoring—interacting with founders, investors, and senior leadership.

You will build and review company profiles, conduct sector analyses, and coordinate due diligence across multiple workstreams, delivering clear investment insights and recommendations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Management Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Approximately 3-5 years of relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, venture capital, corporate development, transaction advisory, management consulting, equity research, or similar analytical roles.
• Strong financial modeling, valuation, accounting, and quantitative analysis skills.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into concise recommendations.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Support identification and evaluation of potential private equity, venture capital, strategic minority, and other investment opportunities.
• Conduct market landscaping, sector research, and company screening to identify attractive themes and targets.
• Develop company profiles, industry analyses, and initial investment screens.
• Track relevant companies, transactions, investors, valuations, and sector developments.
• Support relationship-building with founders, management teams, financial sponsors, venture capital funds, banks, and other ecosystem participants.
• Build and maintain financial models, including operating models, valuation analyses, investment returns models, and scenario/sensitivity analyses.
• Evaluate business models, historical and projected financial performance, market positioning, and unit economics.
• Perform valuation using DCF, precedent transactions, comparables, and venture/private-market approaches.
• Coordinate and support due diligence across commercial, financial, legal, tax, and other workstreams.
• Analyze transaction structures and assess returns under different scenarios.
• Synthesize diligence findings into clear investment conclusions and recommendations.
• Prepare investment committee materials and articulate thesis, rationale, valuation, risks, and mitigants.
• Support transaction execution with internal and external stakeholders and review term sheets.

Investments and Planning Analyst - Corporate Private Equity / Venture Capital

Role Overview

We are seeking an Investment Analyst to join our corporate investment team, supporting private equity and venture capital investments aligned with the company's financial objectives.

The Analyst will work across the full investment lifecycle-from-market mapping and opportunity screening through due diligence, financial analysis, investment committee materials, transaction execution, and portfolio monitoring. The role offers exposure to senior management, business unit leaders, founders, investors, advisors, and other stakeholders across the investment ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the identification and evaluation of potential private equity, venture capital, strategic minority, and other investment opportunities.
• Conduct market landscaping, sector research, and company screening to identify attractive themes and investment targets.
• Develop company profiles, industry analyses, comparable-company assessments, and initial investment screens.
• Track relevant companies, transactions, investors, valuations, and sector developments.
• Support relationship-building with founders, management teams, financial sponsors, venture capital funds, investment banks, and other ecosystem participants.
• Build and maintain financial models, including operating models, valuation analyses, investment returns models, and scenario/sensitivity analyses.
• Evaluate business models, historical and projected financial performance, market positioning, competitive dynamics, unit economics, and key investment risks.
• Perform valuation using relevant methodologies, including DCF, precedent transactions, trading comparables, and venture/private-market valuation approaches.
• Coordinate and support commercial, financial, legal, tax, and other due diligence workstreams.
• Analyze transaction structures and assess potential returns under different investment and exit scenarios.
• Synthesize diligence findings into clear investment conclusions and recommendations.

Transaction Approval and Execution

• Prepare investment committee presentations, transaction summaries, financial analyses, and supporting materials.
• Clearly articulate the investment thesis, strategic rationale, valuation, expected returns, key risks, and potential mitigants.
• Support transaction execution, including coordination with internal stakeholders and external legal, financial, and other advisors.
• Assist in reviewing term sheets, transaction structures, shareholder arrangements, and other key commercial terms.
• Maintain transaction processes, diligence trackers, data rooms, and investment documentation.
• Monitor the financial and operating performance of portfolio companies.
• Track KPIs, budgets, forecasts, funding requirements, valuation developments, and key business milestones.
• Prepare periodic portfolio reviews and updates for senior management and investment committees.
• Maintain portfolio valuation and investment performance reporting.

• Exposure to sectors relevant to the company's strategic priorities.
• CFA, CPA, MBA, or other relevant professional qualification is advantageous but not required.
