Job description

Overview

The Professional Intern will support business operations through a combination of professional work, technology-enabled processes, data analysis, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives. This internship pathway provides exposure to functions such as software implementation, customer experience coaching, and client-facing financial account management, allowing interns to develop a broad understanding of how business processes, systems, and teams work together to deliver customer and operational outcomes.

Interns will gain hands-on experience in managing and improving workflows by learning how customer and account information is collected, validated, configured, monitored, analyzed, and communicated across different stakeholders. Working under the guidance of experienced professionals, they may assist with maintaining project or case trackers, reviewing and validating data, analyzing operational metrics, mapping business processes, creating knowledge or coaching materials, preparing dashboards and reports, supporting issue triage activities, and coordinating actions with cross-functional teams.

The role emphasizes practical application of technology and process improvement. As part of their internship experience, interns will contribute to a tangible business deliverable such as a dashboard, process map, knowledge article repository, quality checklist, workflow enhancement initiative, issue-triage guide, structured reporting template, or light automation solution using approved enterprise tools. All outputs are expected to be documented, scalable, and formally handed over to a designated business owner to support long-term operational effectiveness and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Learn and follow the Business Unit’s documented end-to-end workflow, systems, quality standards, data-access rules, and escalation paths.
  • Support supervised implementation, customer-experience, account-management, reporting, or operational activities based on the assigned Scope of Work.
  • Navigate approved business systems such as CRM, ticketing, case-management, project-tracking, content, collaboration, survey, or financial platforms with mentor guidance.
  • Organize, clean, validate, and reconcile structured information before it is used for setup, reporting, coaching, customer communication, or decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate project plans, action logs, case notes, scorecards, coaching trackers, status reports, checklists, and supporting documentation.
  • Review operational measures such as implementation progress, data quality, customer feedback, account health, task aging, quality results, or service outcomes and summarize key themes.
  • Help triage routine issues by gathering evidence, documenting the problem, checking known guidance, identifying the responsible team, and escalating appropriately.
  • Create or improve knowledge articles, playbooks, scripts, quick-reference guides, process maps, role-play scenarios, or customer-ready materials using approved templates.
  • Build simple dashboards, recurring reports, validation aids, or light workflow automations using tools such as Excel, Power Query, Power BI, Power Automate, or equivalent approved platforms when appropriate to the assignment.
  • Participate in cross-functional coordination with implementation, support, finance, quality, training, product, workforce, operations, or customer-facing teams.
  • Communicate status, dependencies, risks, unanswered questions, and recommended next steps clearly to the mentor and relevant stakeholders.
  • Handle customer, employee, financial, and operational data responsibly and follow all privacy, confidentiality, and access requirements.
  • Test the assigned improvement with users, incorporate feedback, and document the final process, logic, owner, limitations, and maintenance steps.
  • Present results and a reusable handoff package at the final review or demo day.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program related to information technology, information systems, computer science, business analytics, data science, accountancy, finance, business administration, economics, communication, psychology, education, marketing, or another relevant field.
  • Comfort using spreadsheets, documents, presentations, collaboration tools, and web-based business applications; experience learning unfamiliar systems is an advantage.
  • Basic analytical ability to organize information, identify patterns, compare results with requirements, and explain findings clearly.
  • Foundational Excel skills; exposure to lookups, pivot tables, charts, Power Query, Power BI, SQL, or basic automation is helpful but may be developed during the internship.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to prepare concise status updates, structured documentation, or customer- and learner-friendly content.
  • Attention to detail and willingness to follow quality checks, data controls, documented workflows, and escalation procedures.
  • Interest in one or more of the following: software implementation, customer support, customer experience, coaching, financial account management, operations analytics, knowledge management, or process improvement.
  • Ability to manage several supervised tasks, work with cross-functional partners, receive feedback, and revise work based on evidence.
  • Coursework, capstones, dashboards, research projects, case competitions, student leadership, tutoring, customer service, freelance work, or prior internship experience may demonstrate readiness.
  • Ability to comply with the assigned hybrid schedule, site requirements, approved tools, data-access restrictions, and internship-hour limits.
Sub-Qualifications
  • Can learn and navigate an unfamiliar enterprise system using documented procedures, practice tasks, and mentor feedback.
  • Demonstrates basic troubleshooting discipline: gather facts, reproduce or clarify the issue, compare against requirements, document evidence, and escalate when needed.
  • Has basic Excel capability and can work toward using lookups, pivot tables, data validation, charts, Power Query, or simple dashboards.
  • Shows exposure to SQL, Power BI, analytics, survey tools, CRM/ticketing systems, project platforms, or workflow tools through coursework or practical projects.
  • Can map a process, identify handoffs, bottlenecks, duplicate steps, data-quality risks, or unclear ownership, and suggest a practical improvement.
  • Can create clear knowledge articles, playbooks, checklists, coaching materials, status reports, or customer-ready documentation for a defined audience.
  • Can interpret basic operational measures and translate them into a concise insight, action recommendation, or improvement hypothesis.
  • Can build or improve a structured tracker, dashboard, report, workflow, or light automation without requiring full software-development capability.
  • Balances technical curiosity with customer-centered judgment, professional communication, confidentiality, and process discipline.
  • Can show evidence of fit through a dashboard, process map, analysis, case study, knowledge article, spreadsheet model, capstone, or similar work sample.
  • Can complete a documented handoff that identifies the output owner, operating steps, data source, limitations, and measure of adoption or success.
