Overview
A housekeeper is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness within private homes, hotels, or other residential or commercial properties. Tasks vary by setting but generally include the following responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Cleaning and tidying: sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors.
- Dusting and polishing furniture and surfaces.
- Cleaning windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces.
- Changing bed linens and making beds.
- Laundry duties, including washing, folding, and ironing clothes.
- Disinfecting high-touch areas like doorknobs, light switches, and counters.
- Organizing: ensuring rooms are tidy and organized; sorting and putting away personal items and belongings; organizing closets and storage spaces.
- Cleaning bathrooms: scrubbing toilets, sinks, showers, and bathtubs; restocking toiletries, towels, and other bathroom essentials.
- Kitchen maintenance: cleaning kitchen appliances, counters, and sinks; washing dishes and ensuring the kitchen is sanitary.
- Disposing of trash and taking out the garbage.
Qualifications
- Previous housekeeping or cleaning experience.
- Certification in hospitality services (for hotel housekeeping roles).
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
