Job summary

The British School Manila is seeking a Head Librarian to lead the strategic and operational development of the Learning Resource Centre, ensuring a welcoming, well-resourced environment that supports teaching, literacy and reading across the School.

You will manage resources, budgets and staff, promote a culture of reading, collaborate with teachers, and contribute to policies and future resource planning within a leading international school in Manila.

Qualifications

• Minimum six years of experience in library or learning resource centre management, preferably in education.
• Strong knowledge of library resources, information systems and digital learning resources.
• Leadership and people-management experience with a passion for reading.
• Organised and proactive, with budget and resource management ability.

Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day and strategic management of the Learning Resource Centre, including resources, systems, budget and operations.
• Line manage three LRC team members, set expectations and support professional development.
• Promote reading through literacy initiatives and a strong reading culture.
• Oversee selection, cataloguing, maintenance and evaluation of print and digital resources.
• Manage information and inventory systems, using data to inform planning and purchasing.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to support learning and organise enrichment opportunities.
• Advise leadership on resource needs and future developments.
• Promote the LRC across the BSM community and maintain professional networks.

About the role

The Head Librarian will lead the strategic and operational development of the Learning Resource Centre, ensuring it provides a welcoming, engaging and well resourced environment that supports teaching, learning, literacy and reading across the School.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the day to day and strategic management of the Learning Resource Centre, including its resources, systems, budget and operations
• Line manage the three members of the Learning Resource Centre team, setting clear expectations, supporting professional development and ensuring effective organisation of the department
• Promote a love of reading, literacy and a strong reading culture across the School
• Oversee the updating, selection, organisation, cataloguing, maintenance and evaluation of print and digital resources
• Manage information and inventory systems, using data on resource use to inform future planning and purchasing
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff to support learning, develop Learning Resource Centre programmes and organise enrichment opportunities, including visiting authors, reading initiatives and literacy events
• Contribute to relevant school policies and advise school leadership on resource needs, priorities and future developments
• Maintain appropriate professional networks and actively promote the Learning Resource Centre and its work across the BSM community

About you

• At least six (6) years of relevant professional experience in library or learning resource centre management, preferably within an educational setting
• Strong knowledge of library resources, information systems and digital learning resources
• Strong leadership and people-management skills and a passion for reading
• Organised, proactive and able to manage budgets and resources
• Collaborative and able to build positive relationships
