Key Responsibilities
- The Grid Engineer will support the technical assessment of potential solar project sites by evaluating available interconnection options.
- Develop grid connection strategies for major renewable energy projects, including identifying nearby NGCP substations, transmission lines, distribution substations, or potential interconnection points.
- Assess and recommend suitable connection points, transmission voltage levels, substation configurations, and grid reinforcement and right-of-way requirements.
- Evaluate grid capacity, network constraints, connection alternatives, and potential technical and commercial risks.
- Support evaluation of additional renewable energy projects and portfolio-level transmission and interconnection strategies based on grid feasibility.
2. Substation & Transmission Engineering
- Support preliminary design considerations for project substations, switching stations, and grid connection facilities.
- Develop and review electrical single-line diagrams, protection arrangements, equipment specifications, and grid connection facilities.
- Assist in estimating high-level grid connection and transmission/distribution system constraints, including technical, cost, and schedule impacts.
- Review transmission line and substation requirements associated with renewable energy interconnections.
- Coordinate technical requirements for transformers, switchgear, protection systems, metering, communication systems, and auxiliary systems with land, permitting, and ROW teams for transmission corridor requirements.
3. Grid Studies & Technical Analysis
- Lead and/or review grid studies required for renewable energy interconnection, System Impact Study application, and coordination.
- Analyze grid constraints and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
- Assist in evaluating system strength, fault levels, voltage stability, reactive power requirements, required transmission line, substation, transformer, protection, and metering requirements, and other grid performance considerations.
- Review technical reports and study outputs from external grid consultants, NGCP, owner’s engineers, and technical advisors.
4. NGCP, DOE & Regulatory Coordination
- Coordinate closely with National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) regarding grid interconnection requirements, technical studies, approvals, and project implementation.
- Support and monitor grid interconnection applications, technical submissions, approval processes, system impact studies, facility studies, and connection-related requirements.
- Coordinate technical clarifications with the Department of Energy (DOE) and other relevant government agencies on applicable renewable energy and transmission requirements.
- Ensure compliance with the Philippine Grid Code, NGCP requirements, applicable DOE regulations, and other relevant Philippine standards.
- Assist and track technical comments, regulatory requirements, approvals, and outstanding actions through project completion.
5. Project Development Support
Ensure full compliance with the Philippine Grid Code and applicable NGCP technical standards.
6. Technical Support Documentation & Due Diligence
Establish and maintain a grid compliance matrix for project development, design, construction, testing, and operation.
Identify key grid risks that may affect project bankability, schedule, cost, or capacity.
Assist in preparing investor presentations, project summaries, and technical due diligence materials.
8. Documentation and Reporting
Prepare and maintain Technical Due Diligence reports covering electrical
Deliver technical documentation and analyses, technical drawings, and connection documents, including grid studies and land acquisition support reports, to enable informed stakeholder decisions.
Maintain accurate records of technical submissions, grid correspondence, applications, study results, technical drawings, and connection documents, approvals, comments, and regulatory documentation, with tracking of pending requirements, risks, timelines, and action items.
