About The Role
The Global Trade Compliance Analyst / Associate supports centralized trade compliance operations within the GTM Command Center / Control Tower, with a primary focus on pre-clearance document review, workflow management, stakeholder coordination, exception handling, and operational monitoring.
The role supports the timely and compliant movement of goods by reviewing trade and shipping documentation, identifying discrepancies and potential compliance issues, coordinating resolution with relevant stakeholders, and monitoring documentation readiness prior to customs clearance.
The position works closely with clients, customs brokers, freight forwarders, 3PLs, internal operations teams, and trade compliance specialists to improve documentation accuracy, operational visibility, process consistency, and customs clearance readiness across multiple markets.
The role may also provide support for tariff classification and related trade compliance activities, including product data review, classification research, and maintenance of classification records, depending on business requirements.
What You Will Do
- Perform pre-clearance reviews of trade and shipping documentation to validate completeness, accuracy, consistency, and customs clearance readiness prior to declaration submission.
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, air waybills, arrival notices, shipping instructions, certificates, permits, and other supporting trade documentation.
- Identify missing information, documentation discrepancies, data inconsistencies, and potential compliance issues, and coordinate with relevant stakeholders for timely resolution.
- Support day-to-day GTM Command Center / Control Tower operations, including document intake, workflow monitoring, status updates, exception handling, and operational follow-ups.
- Coordinate with clients, customs brokers, freight forwarders, 3PLs, and internal operational teams to obtain required information and documentation and facilitate customs clearance readiness.
- Monitor document readiness, outstanding actions, broker responses, workflow statuses, and operational KPIs, escalating overdue or unresolved matters where required.
- Maintain accurate workflow records, supporting documentation, system updates, and audit trails to ensure proper traceability and recordkeeping.
- Coordinate with trade compliance and classification specialists on tariff classification, customs requirements, regulatory queries, Free Trade Agreement (FTA) requirements, and other trade-related matters.
- Support tariff classification activities, where required, by reviewing product descriptions, specifications, technical information, and existing classification records and assisting with classification research and validation.
- Assist in maintaining HS/HTS classification data, product classification records, supporting rationale, and classification documentation in accordance with established procedures.
- Support the collection and review of information required for classification activities, including product composition, function, material, intended use, and technical specifications.
- Assist with new client, country, broker, and workflow implementations, including requirements gathering, data preparation, system setup support, user onboarding, testing, and operational readiness activities.
- Conduct workflow walkthroughs and support user training on established processes, SOPs, and digital trade solutions.
- Prepare and maintain operational dashboards, trackers, KPI reports, and management updates covering documentation accuracy, turnaround times, workflow performance, exceptions, and operational trends.
- Support the development and maintenance of SOPs, work instructions, process documentation, and country-specific requirements.
- Participate in process improvement and digital transformation initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency, compliance controls, and user experience.
- Support periodic operational reviews, data quality checks, and compliance monitoring activities as required.
What You Need
- Experience or educational background in trade compliance, customs clearance, logistics, supply chain, freight forwarding, import/export operations, or international trade.
- Practical experience in customs clearance, trade documentation review, import/export coordination, or global trade operations is preferred.
- Good understanding of import/export processes, customs documentation requirements, and international trade operations.
- Experience reviewing commercial and shipping documents for customs clearance or compliance purposes is an advantage.
- Ability to identify documentation discrepancies, missing information, and data inconsistencies with strong attention to detail.
- Experience coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to obtain information and documentation required for customs or trade compliance activities.
- Basic knowledge or exposure to HS/HTS tariff classification, customs valuation, country of origin, Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), and customs compliance requirements is an advantage.
- Exposure to product classification research, including reviewing product descriptions, technical specifications, composition, function, and intended use, is a plus.
- Knowledge of export control classification, including ECCN or similar classification frameworks, is a plus but not essential.
- An educational or professional background in industrial, electrical, electronics, chemical engineering, or other relevant technical disciplines is an added advantage, particularly for roles supporting tariff classification activities.
- Experience supporting operational implementations, client onboarding, process transitions, system testing, or SOP rollouts is preferred.
- Comfortable working with digital workflow platforms, dashboards, document management systems, visibility tools, or operational tracking systems.
- Familiarity with SAP GTS, SAP S/4HANA, or other global trade management and trade compliance systems is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to work with operational data, trackers, and reports.
- Strong communication, coordination, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively across different stakeholders and markets.
- Good organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, workflows, and priorities within established timelines.
