We are looking for a hands‑on GIS / Geomatics Field Specialist to develop and maintain the digital mapping and field‑data system of our commercial agroforestry plantation in Lipa, Batangas.
You will work both in the field and in QGIS/QField, managing plantation maps, individual tree records, field surveys, infrastructure mapping, geotagging and spatial‑data quality control. The position will eventually be trained to operate RTK GNSS Base/Rover equipment and PiCUS tree tomography equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain and update the plantation's QGIS master map and spatial database.
- Prepare and manage QField projects for Android field tablets.
- Conduct field mapping and geotagging of individual trees and plantation assets.
- Create and maintain unique Tree IDs linked to coordinates, QR tags and plantation records.
- Map planting grids, rows, parcels, roads, drainage, irrigation, wells, tanks, buildings and other infrastructure.
- Import, clean and process DWG, DXF, CSV/XYZ, SHP, GeoPackage and GeoTIFF data.
- Work with coordinate systems, projections and datums including PRS92, UTM and WGS84.
- Collect field attributes including tree status, species, planting date, DBH, mortality/replacement and observations.
- Reconcile physical trees and QR tags against GIS/database records.
- Perform GIS data QC and identify duplicate IDs, incorrect coordinates, CRS errors, missing attributes and misplaced features.
- Maintain controlled sandbox > validation > approved master database workflows.
- Produce plantation maps, progress maps, inventories and management reports.
- Coordinate with the Plantation Manager, Agronomist/R&D team, Site Engineer, IT developers and external surveyors.
- Assist with and eventually independently operate GNSS/RTK Base + Rover equipment.
- Receive training to conduct PiCUS sonic tomography measurements and maintain tree-level longitudinal measurement records for R&D.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geodetic Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, GIS / Geoinformatics, Surveying, Geography (with strong GIS specialization), or Agroforestry Engineering (with strong GIS experience).
- Geodetic Engineer license is an advantage but not required.
- Practical working knowledge of QGIS for desktop spatial data analysis and mapping.
- Hands‑on experience with QField and Android-based field data collection tools.
- Ability to handle, process, and manage GeoPackage, Shapefile (SHP), and CSV spatial data formats.
- Sound understanding and application of Coordinate Reference Systems (CRS) and spatial data quality control.
- Preferred experience with GNSS / RTK Base and Rover surveying equipment (training will be provided).
- Preferred proficiency in AutoCAD or Civil 3D for spatial drafting.
- Advantageous background in drone mapping, UAV photogrammetry, LiDAR, DEM, and contour mapping.
- Advantageous experience in forestry/plantation mapping, tree inventory systems, or specialized diagnostic equipment like PiCUS (training provided).
- Preferred technical skills in SQL / PostGIS for spatial databases and Python for GIS workflow automation.
