Job Description
The Finance and Accounting Manager is responsible for the overall financial health of the school. This role involves overseeing all accounting operations, preparing and managing budgets, ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance to the leadership team. The manager must ensure the efficient and transparent use of school resources to support educational objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage all day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
- Prepare and present accurate, timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) or relevant accounting standards.
- Oversee bank reconciliations, cash flow monitoring, and management of restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Monitor financial performance against the budget and provide detailed variance analysis and financial forecasting.
II. Budgeting and Planning
- Assist in the annual budget development process in collaboration with the School Director and department heads.
- Prepare budget or forecast vs actual on a regular basis.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, opportunities for cost savings, and areas for improved financial efficiency.
III. Internal Controls & Compliance
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls and financial procedures to safeguard the school’s assets and ensure data integrity.
- Coordinate and manage the external annual audit process, acting as the primary point of contact.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal reporting requirements, tax regulations, and educational funding rules.
IV. Tuition and Billing
- Manage the tuition billing and fee collection process, ensuring accuracy and timely communication with parents/guardians.
- Oversee the financial aid application review and disbursement process in coordination with the relevant committee.
V. Employee Payroll
- Review timekeeping and process employee payroll.
VI. People Management
- Engage with senior management, auditors, banks, and regulators on strategic or policy issues
- Coach and develop team members
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
- Expert knowledge of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Blackbaud) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent knowledge in generally accepted accounting principles and other
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex financial information to non-financial staff and the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent certification is highly desirable
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role. Experience in educational setting is a strong advantage.
