Job summary

Fireworks AI is seeking an Employment Counsel to own the employment and labor matters as we scale our rapidly growing platform. You’ll be the go-to legal partner for our People and HR teams and help craft scalable policies for a multi-state workforce.

You will advise on employee equity and compensation, support international expansion, and ensure compliance across jurisdictions while collaborating with cross-functional teams. This is a build-from-scratch role in a fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

• JD is required and membership in at least one US state bar.
• 9+ years of in-house employment and labor law experience.
• Experience supporting international expansion and navigating global employment laws.
• Experience working in or with startups, preferably in hypergrowth environments.
• Proven ability to partner with HR and People Operations.
• Familiarity with employee equity and compensation considerations.
• Ability to build scalable employment policies and processes.
• Comfort using AI tools to streamline daily workflows.

Responsibilities

• Advise on the full range of employment and labor matters: hiring, terminations, classifications, leaves, accommodations, investigations, and policy.
• Partner closely with HR and People Operations as a trusted, day-to-day legal advisor.
• Counsel on employee equity and compensation considerations.
• Build scalable employment policies, templates, and processes suited to a rapidly growing, multi-state workforce.
• Support international expansion and advise on cross-border employment and global labor law compliance as the company grows outside the US.
• Manage employment-related disputes and coordinate outside counsel where needed.
• Keep us ahead of compliance obligations that come with fast headcount growth.
