Job summary

Royal Caribbean International is seeking an Electrician Officer to oversee the safe operation, maintenance, and testing of all electrical equipment onboard our vessels. The role requires thorough knowledge of high voltage systems, propulsion and electrical distribution, and coordination with multiple technical teams to ensure optimal ship performance.

The ideal candidate will have STCW95 certification, a valid CoC including HV, and extensive onboard experience with passenger ships.

Qualifications

• STCW95 certification is required.
• Certificate of Competence including HV certificate is required.
• Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
• Solid understanding of all electrical equipment onboard the vessel.
• Extensive experience in subordinate positions on board passenger ships.

Responsibilities

• Monitors electrical equipment onboard to maximize safety and efficiency.
• Maintains, operates and repairs electrical systems per company policies and regulations.
• Keeps logbooks and documentation up to date.
• Supervises and reviews work with other departments and ensures compliance with ISM, SOLAS and STCW.

Job description

Electrician Officers

1. Responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, upkeep, diagnosis, installations, repair and testing

of all electrical equipment onboard to the highest degree of safety and performance in accordance

with Company Policies and in compliance with Public Health, any National or International standards

or any other prescribed regulations.

2. Ensures proper coordination with different technical parties and departments.

Reporting Structure

1. Reporting to the Chief Electrician.

Responsibilities

1. Monitors all electrical equipment onboard to maximize operational safety and efficiency of the vessel.

2. Safe maintenance, operation, repair, supervision and ownership of electrical systems according to

Company policies and other prescribed regulations (to include but not limited to the following):

• a. High voltage systems
• b. Main and auxiliary engines
• c. Communications
• d. Light systems including emergency lighting and power supply
• e. Control systems
• f. Power and engine systems
• g. Generators
• h. Thrusters
• i. Steering gear
• j. Hi fog
• k. Watertight doors
• l. Electrical installation in the engine room
• m. Navigation systems
• n. Emergency systems
• o. Elevators
• p. Fire alarm systems
• q. Automation
• r. Diesel electric propulsion
• s. Shell doors and platform equipment
• t. Galley and pantry equipment
• u. Provision equipment
• v. Laundry machinery and equipment (main laundry as well as Guest and Crew Laundries)
• w. Dining, Bar, Housekeeping pantry equipment
• x. Rooms Division equipment
• y. Incinerator, garbage and food waste system

3. Ensures sufficient stock of spare parts and consumables is on order and in onboard system to cover

planned and unplanned maintenance.

4. Participates in the development of on board operational plans in accordance with all technical,

legislative, safety and procedural specifications, to support the successful completion of maintenance

periods, ensuring a minimal impact on the shipboard operation.

5. Keeps Chief Electrician promptly and fully informed of all problems and matters of significance.

6. Accurate completion of logbooks and other assigned documentation.

7. When assigning and delegating work, actively supervise and follow up on the work by inspection at

Accountable for ensuring that Company, Public Health, National and International standards are

maintained and meeting requirements. Reporting to the Chief Electrician any instances where the

ship is unable or fails to comply.

9. Executes strict practices to ensure that the vessel is operated in accordance with the following

regulations and Company policies, during all prevailing circumstances and conditions:

• a. International Safety Management Code.
• b. ISPS Code.
• c. SOLAS.
• d. Code of Safe Working Practices.
• e. MARPOL.
• f. Pollution prevention.
• g. STCW.
• h. Maintaining 100% compliance with Company requirements, as well as ILO/MLC.

10. Give support to train and develop the team members if requested, ensuring effective reviews,

feedback, and coaching and performance management.

11. Observes and enforces uniform and grooming standards according to Company policies.

12. Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct within the Engine department and

other departments around the ship.

13. All other duties as assigned.

Safety Duties:

1. Participates in crew safety drills according to instructions.

2. Must always comply with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating

procedures.

3. Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others.

4. Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are

being used correctly.

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

1. Valid STCW95 certification.

2. Valid certificate of competence including HV certificate.

3. Appropriate certification as required by regulations.

4. Must have a solid understanding of all electrical equipment installed onboard the vessel.

5. Extensive experience in subordinate positions and on board passenger ships in a similar role.

6. Physically and medically fit.

7. Moral integrity is required.

8. Public Health, Sanitation and Environmental training courses are appreciated.

9. Proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings and manuals.

10. Alaska experience is a plus.

11. It is recommended to have Public Health, Coast Guard and Port State Control experience.
