Job summary

The Haskell Company is seeking a Structural Steel Detailer to develop shop drawings and Tekla models from architectural and engineering drawings. The role requires coordinating with design and construction teams to ensure conformance to applicable steel detailing standards.

Responsibilities include creating precise 3D Tekla models, preparing detailed 2D drawings and connections, and staying current with AISC/steel shop standards. Travel may be required as projects dictate.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering preferred.
• At least 3 years of significant structural and miscellaneous steel detailing experience.
• Familiarity with US imperial steel detailing standards.

Responsibilities

Scope of Position

Structural Steel Detailers work closely with steel fabrication teams and other internal and external parties to produce quality steel shop drawings.

Job Responsibilities

• Application of Knowledge:
  • Contributes to developing shop drawings and 3D Tekla models from engineering drawings/sketches and architectural drawings.
  • Coordinates among disciplines and conformance to corporate standards for steel detailing documents.
  • Resolves building geometry challenges by coordinating with engineering and architectural teams.
  • Produces detailed connections and steel shop drawings in Tekla, in line to the US and/or international standards.
  • Prepares steel shop drawings, checking and marking plans.
• Professional Development:
  • Participates in the professional community organizations and trade organizations within discipline.
  • Reviews updates on AISC and Steel Shop Standards
• Travel as required.
• Other duties which may be assigned as needed.

Level II Additional Responsibilities

• Construction Support:
  • Assists in prioritizing critical responses.
  • Negotiates issue resolutions among design disciplines and between design and construction staff.
• Change Management:
  • Responsible for identifying steel detailing scope change definition that will impact schedule and financial performance.
  • Documents all changes in scope in accordance with terms of the contract.
• Strategy:
  • Seeks innovative ways to provide the steel detailing/shop drawing deliverables.
  • Contributes for development of and compliance with a comprehensive and cohesive shop drawing and specifications production strategy.

Education & Years Of Experience

• Level I: Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering and experience working on an architecture or engineering firm is preferred.
• Level II: Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering and at least 3 years of significant structural and miscellaneous steel detailing experience.

Qualifications

• Knowledgeable in US imperial steel detailing standard codes & specifications.
• Understanding of US steel fabrication and construction practices.
• Knowledgeable in Tekla Structures. 2D drafting and 3D modeling skills is required.
• Has considerable experience in checking both 3D model and 2D drawings.

Environmental Factors And Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, team members may be required to visit alternate locations, and therefore must have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to do so. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The team member is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
