Job summary

Umpisa Inc. is seeking a seasoned Database Administrator to install, maintain and optimize enterprise-level database infrastructure.

You will ensure uptime, performance, security, and backup strategies across production environments while coordinating with operations, risk management, and vendors. The role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work within a self-organizing Scrum team in a scaled agile framework.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• With relevant experience as a Database Administrator or in database/infrastructure administration.
• Strong knowledge of database administration, maintenance, monitoring, backup, and recovery.
• Experience with enterprise-level database infrastructure and production environments.
• Knowledge of database performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Familiarity with database security, access controls, and management of privileged/super-user accounts.
• Experience coordinating with infrastructure/database vendors for product updates, fixes, technical support, and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Installs and administers major, very-complex, enterprise-level infrastructure components and facilities.
• Maintains infrastructure uptime, performance and security at agreed service levels.
• Researches industry developments regarding assigned infrastructure components to implement better practices.
• Provides technical support and consultancy to operations, applications management, and risk management.
• Advises applications managers on infrastructure considerations for optimal design.
• Communicates with infrastructure vendors about updates, fixes, and support requirements.
• Monitors condition and performance of assigned infrastructure components and reports status to leads.
• Performs regular housekeeping on infrastructure components, including backups and maintenance.
• Documents configurations and keeps records updated and secure.
• Complies with configuration management policies and maker-checker controls for ITCRF forms.
• Complies with policies on handling and safeguarding super-user IDs.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Installs and administers major, very-complex, enterprise-level infrastructure components and facilities. Maintains infrastructure up time, performance and security at agreed service levels.
• Researches industry developments regarding his assigned infrastructure components, to learn and implement better infrastructure administration practices, understand cost-effective alternatives, and to guard against unplanned obsolescence. Where needed, recommends better and/or more cost-effective replacement infrastructure.
• Provides technical support and consultancy services to personnel in operations, applications management, and risk management. Advises applications managers on infrastructure considerations so they can design applications optimally.
• Communicates, and coordinates with infrastructure vendors regarding product updates, fixes, and support requirements.
• Monitors periodically the condition and performance of his assigned infrastructure components, and regularly reports the status of such to his leads.
• Performs regular housekeeping on his assigned infrastructure components, e.g. cleanup of unnecessary components, system-level backup, vendor preventive maintenance, etc.
• Documents the configuration of his assigned infrastructure components, and keeps such documentation updated and secure.
• Complies with policies on configuration management, e.g. maker-checker controls for ITCRF forms.
• Complies with policies on the handling and safe-keeping of super-user IDs for his assigned infrastructure components.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• With relevant experience as a Database Administrator or in database/infrastructure administration.
• Strong knowledge of database administration, maintenance, monitoring, backup, and recovery.
• Experience working with enterprise-level database infrastructure and production environments.
• Knowledge of database performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Familiarity with database security, access controls, and management of privileged/super-user accounts.
• Experience in database backup, recovery, housekeeping, and preventive maintenance activities.
• Ability to monitor database health, performance, availability, and security in accordance with agreed service levels.
• Experience coordinating with infrastructure/database vendors for product updates, fixes, technical support, and maintenance.
• Strong documentation skills, particularly in maintaining database configurations and technical records.
• Good analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve technical issues.
• Good communication and coordination skills when working with operations, application teams, risk management, vendors, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to research industry developments and recommend improvements or cost-effective infrastructure solutions.
• Knowledge of IT configuration management processes and controls is an advantage.
