Job summary

Union Bank of the Philippines is seeking a Data Products Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines. This role collaborates with Data Product Managers and the Data Architect to ensure high data availability for analytics and operations.

You will model data products, document data workflows, and lead continuous improvement initiatives while providing L3 production support and participating in POC projects. This position is based at UB Plaza in Pasig.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in CS/IT or related field.
• 3+ years in data engineering or related role.
• Proficiency in SQL and relational databases.
• Strong Python programming skills.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and data orchestration tools.
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms and ELT/ETL workflows.
• Experience with Snowflake, DBT, and version control (Git).
• Hands-on with ETL/ELT tools and workflows (Airflow, DBT, Gitlab).
• Knowledge of modern data warehousing solutions (Snowflake, Redshift).

Responsibilities

• Design scalable data pipelines to ingest, process, and store large data volumes from multiple sources.
• Optimize and maintain data infrastructure for performance and reliability.
• Model data products aligned with business needs.
• Develop and maintain data architecture and metadata documentation.
• Stay updated with new data tech and trends.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on data-driven initiatives.
• Lead continuous improvement within data engineering.
• Provide L3 production support for data domains, incl. incident and problem management.
• Participate in POC projects and evaluate new tools/frameworks.
• For senior engineers: review code, enforce best practices, mentor juniors.

Abou t The Role

The Data Engineer will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust data pipelines. This role collaborates closely with Data Product Managers and the Data Architect to ensure high data availability and quality for analytics, reporting, operations, and strategic decision-making.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement scalable and reusable data pipelines to ingest, process, and store large volumes of data from multiple sources.
• Optimize and maintain existing data infrastructure, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Model data products that are efficient, reusable, and aligned with business needs.
• Develop and maintain documentation related to data architecture, metadata, and data processing workflows.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and trends to improve the team’s data engineering capabilities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support data-driven initiatives and participate in design discussions.
• Initiate and lead continuous improvement programs within the data engineering domain.
• Provide L3 production support for data domains, including incident management (for issues beyond L1 and L2), problem management, root cause analysis, and operationalization.
• Participate in proof of concept (POC) projects and evaluate emerging tools or frameworks.
• For senior-level engineers: review code, enforce best practices, and mentor junior team members.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in data engineering or a related role.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern data orchestration tools.
• Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms and optimization of ELT data flows.
• Experience working with Snowflake, DBT, and version control systems like Git.
• Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT tools and pipeline frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow, DBT , Gitlab ).
• Knowledge of modern data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift).
