The Controller’s role is defined by oversight and process integrity.
- Internal Controls & Governance: Designing and enforcing the "check and balance" systems that prevent fraud and ensure data integrity across various departments (Pharmacy, HR, Surgery).
- Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) Strategy: Monitoring the "Contractual Allowance"—the difference between what the hospital charges and what insurance companies actually pay—to ensure the hospital isn't losing money on under-coded procedures.
- Treasury & Cash Flow Management: Managing the hospital's liquidity to ensure payroll for thousands of employees is met and capital for expensive medical equipment is available.
- Financial System Integration: Leading the implementation or optimization of the Hospital Information System (HIS) to ensure clinical data flows accurately into financial reports.
- Tax & Non-Profit Compliance: For non-profit hospitals, ensuring compliance with IRS Form 990 and community benefit reporting to maintain tax-exempt status.
