We are looking for an experienced Construction Takeoff & Estimating Specialist to support commercial construction projects in the United States.
The role will involve reviewing construction plans, specifications, addenda and bid documents and preparing accurate quantity takeoffs and estimates, primarily for fencing, gates and related sitework.
We are looking for someone who can genuinely read and understand construction drawings, not simply measure plans.
You will be responsible for:
Reviewing US commercial construction plans and specifications
Identifying all fencing, gates and related scope
Performing accurate quantity takeoffs
Breaking systems down into individual components and quantities
Identifying fence types, heights, materials and finishes
Calculating line posts, corner posts, end posts, gate posts and other components
Identifying footing dimensions and calculating concrete quantities
Identifying pedestrian and vehicular gates, hardware and accessories
Reviewing civil, architectural, landscape, structural, electrical and security drawings
Reading and interpreting construction specifications
Reviewing addenda and revised drawings
Identifying missing, conflicting or unclear information
Preparing clarification questions and RFIs where required
Maintaining clear source references for takeoff quantities
Assisting with material and subcontractor pricing
Reviewing and validating AI-assisted takeoffs
Maintaining estimating spreadsheets and records
Managing multiple bids and deadlines
The ideal candidate:
Has strong experience reading US construction drawings and specifications
Has commercial construction estimating or quantity takeoff experience
Understands drawing scales, details, keynotes and schedules
Can follow references between multiple drawing disciplines
Has excellent attention to detail
Can identify scope that may be missed by a basic plan review
Understands the importance of identifying drawing/specification conflicts
Is comfortable performing detailed quantity calculations
Has strong Excel or Google Sheets skills
Is organized and able to manage multiple projects
Can work independently
Communicates clearly in written English
Is comfortable using new technology and AI-assisted estimating tools
Ideally 3+ years of construction estimating or quantity takeoff experience.
Experience in any of the following is particularly relevant:
Commercial fencing
Gates and access systems
Miscellaneous metals
Architectural specialties
Civil/sitework
Landscaping
Concrete
General contracting
Commercial subcontractor estimating
Direct fencing experience is preferred but not required.
An experienced estimator or quantity surveyor from another construction trade may be a strong fit if they are excellent at reading plans and specifications.
