About the role
The Coffee & Beverage Development Specialist is responsible for developing, testing, and improving coffee and non-coffee beverage products for the company. The role combines hands-on barista expertise with product development, beverage formulation, sensory evaluation, costing, and operational standardization. The position works closely with Operations, Marketing, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, and other relevant teams to develop beverages that are commercially viable, operationally executable, cost-efficient, and aligned with customer preferences and brand standards.
Key responsibilities
Develop and formulate new coffee, espresso-based, tea, chocolate, fruit-based, blended, and other specialty beverages
Create seasonal, promotional, and permanent beverage menu offerings based on market trends and business requirements
Conduct beverage trials, recipe testing, product refinement, and sensory evaluation
Improve existing beverage formulations based on customer feedback, operational concerns, quality, cost, and availability of ingredients
Explore new ingredients, flavors, syrups, coffee beans, milk alternatives, toppings, and beverage preparation techniques
Prepare and evaluate espresso-based beverages using appropriate brewing and extraction techniques
Establish and maintain beverage preparation standards, including coffee-to-water ratios, extraction time, milk preparation, temperature, portioning, and presentation
Develop standardized beverage recipes, procedures, product specifications, and preparation guides
Monitor local and international coffee, café, and beverage trends and conduct competitor checks
Conduct product demonstrations and beverage preparation training for baristas, store teams, and relevant operations personnel
About you
Graduate of Food Technology, Hospitality Management, Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or any related course
Preferably with at least 2–3 years of experience in coffee, café operations, beverage development, product development, or a related field
Hands-on experience as a Barista, Senior Barista, Head Barista, Coffee Specialist, Beverage Developer, or Beverage R&D Specialist is highly preferred
Strong knowledge of espresso preparation, coffee extraction, milk steaming, beverage formulation, and specialty beverages
Experience in developing both coffee and non-coffee beverages is an advantage
Familiarity with recipe costing, sensory evaluation, ingredient sourcing, and product standardization
Knowledge of café operations and commercial beverage equipment is preferred
