Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities of a Civil Engineer
1. Project Planning & Design
- Assist in the planning, design, and implementation of civil works projects
- Review and interpret plans, drawings, specifications, and BOQs
- Prepare design calculations, cost estimates, and project schedules
- Ensure designs comply with codes, standards, and client requirements
2. Construction Supervision & Site Management
- Supervise and monitor daily construction activities
- Ensure works are executed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and contract
- Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Conduct site inspections and resolve technical issues
3. Quality Control & Assurance
- Implement QA/QC procedures for materials and workmanship
- Ensure compliance with approved material submittals and testing requirements
- Inspect works for conformity prior to billing, acceptance, and turnover
- Prepare inspection reports and punch lists
4. Cost Control & Documentation
- Prepare and review progress billings and accomplishment reports
- Monitor project costs, quantities, and variations
- Assist in change orders, claims, and variation works
- Maintain complete and accurate project records and documentation
5. Coordination & Reporting
- Coordinate with architects, geodetic engineers, MEP engineers, and consultants
- Attend project meetings, site visits, and coordination meetings
- Prepare weekly/monthly progress reports
- Communicate project status to management and clients
- Ensure implementation of construction safety and health programs
- Enforce OSH standards, DOLE requirements, and site safety rules
- Promote safe work practices and environmental protection measures
- Report and assist in the investigation of accidents and incidents
7. Regulatory & Contract Compliance
- Ensure project compliance with DPWH/LGU standards, building codes, and permits
- Assist in securing project clearances and approvals
- Interpret contract provisions and ensure contractual obligations are met
- Support project audits and inspections by authorities
8. Project Close-Out & Turnover
- Prepare as-built drawings and final reports
- Assist in testing, commissioning, and final inspections
- Ensure timely project completion and proper turnover to the client
- Support defect liability and warranty activities
9. Team Leadership & Professional Development
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers and field staff
- Provide technical guidance to construction teams
- Maintain professional competence and uphold ethical standards
