Mech-Air Systems Corporation is looking for a Chief Mechanic to manage the maintenance and performance of all heavy equipment and vehicles used in construction. The Chief Mechanic will lead a team, ensure machinery is in optimal condition, and maintain compliance with safety standards.
The ideal candidate has a vocational qualification in Heavy Equipment Maintenance, at least five years of mechanic experience, and strong technical skills in diesel engines and hydraulics. This role is essential for ensuring project efficiency and safety.
The Chief Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and overall performance of all heavy equipment and vehicles used in construction operations. This position ensures that all machinery—such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, backhoes, dump trucks, and service vehicles—are in excellent working condition to support project activities efficiently and safely.
The Chief Mechanic leads a team of mechanics and technicians, assigns daily tasks, and supervises repair and maintenance schedules. They are expected to diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems, determine appropriate repair solutions, and ensure all work is completed to high technical standards. The role also involves maintaining proper documentation of maintenance activities, tracking parts inventory, monitoring fuel and lubricant usage, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
This position requires strong leadership and technical expertise. The Chief Mechanic must coordinate with project managers, equipment operators, and the logistics department to plan preventive maintenance schedules, minimize equipment downtime, and manage repair priorities. They will also be responsible for training and mentoring subordinate mechanics, evaluating performance, and promoting adherence to company maintenance procedures and safety practices.
The ideal candidate is a graduate of a vocational or technical course in Heavy Equipment Maintenance, Diesel Mechanics, or a related field, preferably with NC II or NC III certification. At least five years of experience as a mechanic in a construction or heavy equipment company is required, with a minimum of two years in a supervisory or lead mechanic role. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostic equipment is essential.
