Job summary

J.E. Manalo & Co. Incorporated, Navotas-based shipping firm, is seeking a Chief Engineer to oversee the engine room's operation, maintenance, and repair of vessel propulsion and auxiliary systems.

You will lead the Engineering team and liaise with the Tugboat Captain and Marine Supervisor to ensure safe, compliant operations. The role requires a Marine Engineer Officer license, robust experience in diesel engines and generators, and willingness to sail onboard during towing and navigation.

Qualifications

• Graduate of Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• Valid Marine Engineer Officer license/certificate.
• Experience in marine engine and auxiliary machinery operations and maintenance.
• Knowledge of diesel engines, generators, pumps, compressors, and mechanical/electrical systems.
• Previous experience as Chief Engineer or similar marine role is preferred/required.
• Willing to work onboard vessels during towing/navigation operations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee operation, maintenance, and repair of engines, generators, pumps, and auxiliaries.
• Monitor fuel, oil, spare parts, and other consumables.
• Implement preventive maintenance schedules and maintain records.
• Report engine status to Captain and Marine Supervisor.
• Ensure compliance with MARPOL and safety/environmental regulations.
• Coordinate technical assistance, spare parts, and major repairs.
• Ensure engine room remains safe during towing/navigation.
• Report security incidents or pilferage.

You will lead the Engineering team and coordinate with the Tugboat Captain and Marine Supervisor to ensure reliable vessel operations and compliance with safety and environmental standards.

What You Will Do:

• Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of engines, generators, pumps, compressors, and auxiliary systems.
• Monitor fuel, oil, spare parts, and other consumables.
• Implement preventive maintenance schedules and maintain accurate records.
• Report engine status and operational concerns to the Captain and Marine Supervisor.
• Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, including MARPOL.
• Coordinate technical assistance, spare parts, and major repairs.
• Ensure the engine room remains safe and operational during towing and navigation.
• Report any security incidents, unauthorized access, theft, or pilferage.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related course.
• Valid Marine Engineer Officer license/certificate appropriate for the position.
• Proven experience in marine engine and auxiliary machinery operations and maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, generators, pumps, compressors, and mechanical/electrical systems.
• Previous experience as a Chief Engineer, 2nd Engineer, or similar marine engineering role is preferred/required.
