SourceU is seeking a CAD Designer to support a NZ-based client with day-to-day design work and accurate, organized drawings. You will modify existing models and drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, ensure files are fabrication-ready, and uphold design standards.
You’ll join a small, relaxed team working remotely across time zones, with expectations for precise BOMs in Excel, strong communication in English, and independence to manage tasks from concept through to production.
Our client is a New Zealand-based engineering firm with more than 20 years in the business. They have designed and built over 3,000 robust vehicles for the agriculture industry. It's a small, close team that outsources most of its fabrication, and they have built up a substantial library of design work along the way. The environment is relaxed and low-stress, but the standard of work is professional. Every build is tailored to the customer's needs.
About the role
We're looking for a CAD Designer to support the company's day-to-day design work and keep their drawings accurate and well organised. CAD sits at the centre of everything they do, so this role matters.
You'll spend most of your time modifying existing models and drawings to specification, fixing design issues, and making sure files are accurate and ready for fabrication. The first few weeks are about learning: getting to know the design library, the filing system and the way the team works. As you settle in, you'll take on more complex design tasks and work with more independence. Over time you'll also help design new products and assist them from pencil sketch to production.
You'll report directly to the company's principal and work Philippine business hours, with some overlap with New Zealand time so you can check in and get feedback in real time.
Key responsibilities
Modify existing 3D models and drawings (IPT and DWG files) according to instructions and specifications
Read and interpret engineering drawings accurately
Identify design issues and make the necessary adjustments to models and drawings
Make sure all designs meet the required specifications and standards
Learn the existing design library and filing system, and do housekeeping so files are organised and easy to find
Generate processing files for laser cutting and machining centres (PDF and DXF)
Prepare bills of materials for costing in Excel and Word, and work closely with purchasing staff to make their job easier
Log work and file updates using Autodesk Vault or a similar system
Contribute to the design process by producing 3D models and their matching drawings
Support new products from concept through to production
Create parts and safety manuals where required, as time allows
What we’re looking for
Hands-on experience with Autodesk software, including AutoCAD (non-negotiable)
Proven experience in 3D modelling, ideally in Autodesk Inventor
Able to read and understand technical and engineering drawings
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, as you'll use it often for bills of materials and costing
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Good written and spoken English for remote collaboration
Nice to have
Experience with Autodesk Vault or another file and version management system
Background in mechanical engineering or a related field
Familiarity with farm equipment, machinery, trailers or similar fabricated products
Experience preparing DXF files for laser cutting or CNC machining
Experience writing parts or safety manuals
What makes a great fit
You work independently and manage your own time well
You communicate clearly and keep people updated when working remotely
You're careful with your work and double-check before you send it
You like learning new processes and adapting to the way a team works
You enjoy practical, hands-on engineering and seeing a design turn into a real machine
What you'll get
A full-time, long-term remote role with an established overseas engineering company
A friendly, relaxed team that values good work without the pressure
Time to learn the systems properly, with clear 30, 60 and 90-day check-ins so you know how you're doing
Real variety, from routine edits to helping design new products
Room to grow into more complex design work and greater responsibility
