About the role

This is a Desktop Estimator role involving the compilation of individual scope of works and pricing for construction projects following small to large scale damage caused by insurable events. The role is not traditional quantity surveying or bill of quantities estimating. Insurance building requires interpreting available evidence, understanding damage and required repair methodology, and developing both scope/quote and supporting report. The Desktop Estimator works closely with the Pre-Repair Team, as well as customers, clients and partner trade networks.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct site assessment of insurance claims via online virtual software
• Provide accurate and professional causation reports to Insurers
• Compile detailed quotations with itemized scope of works and budget breakdown
• Review claim evidence and understand the building and damage
• Interpret what has occurred and determine repair methodology
• Develop accurate scopes and quotes using insurer-specific pricelists/rate cards
• Develop written reports that support and substantiate the quote, clearly explaining damage observed, proposed repairs and relevant findings
• Focus on successful tender results, profitable delivery and strike rate KPIs
• Provide excellent customer service to both Customer (Insured) and Client (Insurer)
• Monitor, drive and adhere to company WHS protocols on all jobs

About you

• Previous Insurance Estimating experience is essential
• At least 2 years estimating experience handling multiple small to medium residential projects simultaneously
• Australian residential building experience, ideally within insurance repairs, restoration, maintenance or renovation
• Working knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC) and Australian building practices, materials and terminology
• Ability to interpret site photographs, assessment information, plans, reports, measurements and other claim documentation without physically attending the property
• Ability to determine appropriate repair methodologies and sequencing of works
• High-level written English communication skills with ability to produce clear, professional, technically accurate reports suitable for submission to an Australian insurer
• Thorough understanding of construction methodology, Australian Standards, Building Codes and WHS requirements is essential
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for customer satisfaction
• Experience working directly with clients, building consultants and all construction related trades and suppliers
• Tech savvy with knowledge of Microsoft Suite and in-house various platforms
• Ability to identify when information provided is insufficient or contradictory and seek clarification rather than make unsupported assumptions
• Ability to work across a high volume of claims while recognizing that every property and claim is different
