SearchMax (Pty) Ltd invites an experienced bookkeeper with Australian bookkeeping experience to join our team and manage bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients across various industries. You will liaise with clients by phone and email, ensuring records are accurate and ready for BAS and year-end.
You will work closely with our accounting team to deliver high-quality work on time, maintain strong client relationships, and continuously learn new systems and processes.

About the role
You will handle bookkeeping for multiple clients across a range of industries. You will be the bookkeeping point of contact for those clients, so you will need to be comfortable picking up the phone, answering their questions and building good working relationships. You will work closely with our accountants to make sure client records are accurate, up to date and ready for BAS and year-end.
Key responsibilities
Manage day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients
Process bank reconciliations
Manage bookkeeping from start to finish, making sure every transaction is coded to the right account
Reconcile and maintain the balance sheet and general ledger for assigned clients
Prepare and lodge BAS and IAS, and reconcile GST and PAYG withholding
Process payroll, including Single Touch Payroll (STP) and superannuation
Code transactions and maintain accurate ledgers in Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks
Handle client correspondence by email and phone, including requesting information, following up on missing documents and answering bookkeeping questions
Follow firm processes and checklists to deliver work accurately and on time
Identify and resolve discrepancies, and escale issues where needed
About you
1–3 years of bookkeeping experience in an Australian accounting firm (essential)
Experience managing multiple clients at once
Hands-on experience with Xero (essential), MYOB and QuickBooks
Good working knowledge of GST, BAS, payroll and superannuation
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Certified Bookkeeper designation is a plus
CPA is also a plus
Outgoing and confident with client communications
Practical common sense and good judgement
Quick to learn new systems and processes
