About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Intermediate Bookkeeper to join an Australian-focused bookkeeping team supporting small to medium-sized businesses across a range of industries.
This role is ideal for an experienced bookkeeper who has strong knowledge of Australian bookkeeping practices, Xero, MYOB, and cloud-based accounting systems. You will manage multiple client files, maintain accurate financial records, support payroll and compliance activities, and assist with BAS and IAS preparation.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities, and communicating professionally with Australian clients and accounting professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities across multiple Australian client accounts.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using Xero, MYOB, and other accounting platforms.
- Process Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR).
- Perform bank, credit card, loan, clearing account, and other balance sheet reconciliations.
- Investigate discrepancies, unreconciled transactions, and unusual account activity.
- Prepare BAS workpapers, GST reconciliations, and supporting documentation for review.
- Assist with the preparation of Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS).
- Process Australian payroll, including PAYG withholding, STP/STP Phase 2, superannuation, leave entitlements, and termination payments.
- Perform payroll reconciliations and maintain accurate employee records.
- Assist with month-end and year-end bookkeeping and financial reporting.
- Support accounts receivable activities, including debtor follow-ups and maintenance of customer records.
- Communicate professionally with Australian clients, accountants, auditors, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain bookkeeping records in accordance with relevant Australian and ATO requirements.
- Manage multiple client files, priorities, and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.
- Assist with client onboarding, accounting system setup, and ongoing file maintenance.
- Use DE X T and Hubdoc to manage source documents and accounting records.
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports and complete other bookkeeping tasks as required.
- Identify issues requiring further review and elevate them appropriately.
Essential Requirements
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of Australian bookkeeping experience.
- Strong practical experience using Xero and MYOB.
- Hands-on experience using Dext and Hubdoc.
- Experience preparing Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS).
- Strong understanding of Australian bookkeeping, GST, PAYG withholding, payroll, and superannuation.
- Experience with Australian payroll processes, including STP/STP Phase 2.
- Proficiency in Microsoft products, particularly Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- Experience managing multiple client files and competing deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good judgment and ability to identify matters requiring escalation or review.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- High level of confidentiality, professionalism, and accountability.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an experienced Australian Bookkeeper with at least 2 years of relevant experience who can confidently manage multiple client files with minimal supervision.
You should be highly proficient in Xero and MYOB, comfortable using Dext and Hubdoc, and experienced in BAS and IAS preparation. Strong Microsoft 365 skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines are essential.
