Job summary

ON.energy is seeking an entry-level Simulation Engineer for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to build, run, and validate SIL/HIL environments. You will develop high-fidelity battery models in Simulink, validate energy management algorithms, and contribute to test automation and documentation.

Mentorship from senior R&D engineers will guide your growth in real-time simulation hardware. The role emphasizes hands-on modeling, control theory foundations, and cross-functional collaboration

Qualifications

• Hands-on MATLAB/Simulink for model-based design and system simulation.
• Understanding of SIL and HIL testing methodologies and their fit in a V-model process.
• Foundational knowledge of battery systems, power electronics, or energy storage technologies.
• Coursework or project experience in control theory, embedded systems, or mechatronics.
• Ability to document results clearly and communicate simulation findings to multidisciplinary teams.
• Exposure to EMS/BMS hardware interfaces and real-time simulation concepts.
• Version control for simulation projects and collaboration workflows.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain SIL environments in MATLAB/Simulink to validate energy management algorithms.
• Build high-fidelity battery models in Simulink, including SoC/SoH and thermal dynamics.
• Design automated regression tests in MATLAB to verify algorithms across modes and fault scenarios.
• Analyze simulation outputs and communicate findings to the engineering team.
• Support HIL setup, interfacing EMS and BMS hardware with real-time simulations.
• Establish communication between hardware controllers and simulations via CAN/Modbus/DNP3/IEC 61850.
• Collaborate on model development for battery, inverter, and grid interaction.
• Maintain test plans, reports, and setup guides for simulations.
