Coins.ph in the Philippines is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale Java-based microservices for its payments platform. You will work with senior engineers regionally, using AI tools to test, ship, and improve features in a fast-paced environment.

You will collaborate with product, risk, finance, and compliance teams, including Mandarin-speaking colleagues, to deliver secure and compliant payments solutions. This role is based in Manila and requires strong backend fundamentals.

Qualifications

• 1–5 years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong Java (Spring Boot) experience; other languages a plus.
• Familiarity with microservices, RESTful APIs, and relational databases.
• Interest in AI and AI tooling (coding tools, LLMs, AI APIs).
• Mandarin Chinese proficiency required; business English also required.
• Solid CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, distributed systems.
• Strong problem-solving, ownership, and eagerness to learn.

Responsabilités

• Build and ship backend services using Java-based microservices for our payment platform.
• Protect user funds with reconciliation, exception-handling, and monitoring.
• Integrate with banks, local and international payment partners; support multi-currency/FX flows.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and prototype AI features.
• Improve reliability and performance; troubleshoot production issues and ensure scalability.
• Collaborate with product, risk, finance, compliance, and Mandarin-speaking teams.
