JFE Engineering Corp. Philippine Branch is seeking an experienced Automation & Instrumentation Engineer on a contract basis to oversee design, installation and maintenance of automated control systems and instrumentation for industrial projects in Metro Manila.

JFE Engineering Corp. Philippine Branch is seeking an experienced Automation & Instrumentation Engineer to join our team on a contract basis. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, installation, and maintenance of automated control systems and instrumentation for our industrial projects in the Metro Manila area. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial engineering and a passion for leveraging technology to optimise operational efficiency.
1. Design & Engineering (Pre-Vendor Selection Phase)
1) Develop A&I basic design such as system architecture, P&ID for A&I and Instrumentation layout.
2) Coordination with client to explain / discuss about control logic.
3) Develop IO list and process flow chart from control philosophy.
4) Prepare and review Material requisitions and Technical Specifications for control and instrumentation systems
5) Review vendor technical proposals and provide technical evaluations
6) Participate in technical bid clarification meetings with vendors
7) Participate in vendor selection process
8) Survey of existing facilities and confirmation of existing drawings
2. Design & Engineering (Post-Vendor Selection Phase)
1) Review and approve vendor's deliverables including:
Detailed system architecture
I/O list and instrument list
Control panel designs
PLC/SCADA software designs
Network configurations
2) Survey of existing SCADA facilities and confirmation of existing software data
3) Manage technical communication with vendors to finalize specifications
4) Monitor vendor development progress according to project schedule
5) Prepare approval documents for client review and coordinate responses
6) Review Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) procedures
7) Attend and supervise FAT activities
8) Review and approve:
Control logic and sequences
HMI screens
Alarm configurations
Other detailed design drawings and technical documents
3. Construction Support & Commissioning
1) Review contractor's method statements and implementation procedures
2) Review and approve subcontractor's detailed design drawings and technical documents
3) Develop commissioning procedures and checklists
4) Supervise installation and commissioning activities including:
Instrument installation
Control panel installation
Loop checking
Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
5) Review test results and commissioning reports
6) Prepare punch lists and follow up on completion
7) Support system handover activities
8) Support operator training programs
4. Technical Communication & Client Interface
1) Respond to and resolve technical queries from client
2) Prepare technical clarification responses for client review comments
3) Document technical decisions and maintain communication records
4) Participate in client technical meetings and design reviews
5) Prepare technical deviation requests when required
6) Conduct regular site visits for system verification
7) Monitor implementation progress and quality control
5. Interdisciplinary Coordination
1) Provide timely A&I information to other engineering teams, including:
Instrument installation requirements
Control panel locations and specifications
Network infrastructure requirements
Interface specifications with other systems
2) Participate in regular coordination meetings
3) Review interface requirements with mechanical and electrical systems
4) Coordinate with Process team for control philosophy implementation
6. Report and Documentation
1) Provide regular status reports to Engineering Manager on system development progress
2) Develop and maintain project schedules for A&I works
3) Identify potential risks and propose mitigation strategies
4) Report critical technical issues promptly with proposed solutions
5) Document and communicate lessons learned
6) Maintain clear communication channels with all stakeholders
1) Bachelor's degree in electrical/electronics engineering
2) Relevant professional certifications (e.g., ISA Certified Automation Professional)
3) Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial automation systems
4) Experience in team leadership
5) Fluent business level of verbal and written communication skills in English
6) Strong personality, positive attitude and ability to work under pressure
7) Strong knowledge of major PLC/SCADA platforms
8) Proficiency in industrial network protocols and architectures
9) Experience with instrumentation and control systems standards
10) Knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
11) Understanding of industrial cybersecurity principles
12) Experience with control system programming and configuration
13) Proficiency in instrument selection and specifications
14) Experience with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, etc.)
15) Knowledge of control panel design and standards
16) Familiarity with Microsoft Office software
1) Experience in wastewater treatment plant projects
2) Experience in managing offshore A&I vendors
3) Familiarity with EPC project execution
4) Experience with specific PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen Bradley)
