Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Track organization software applications using inventory tools.

The Application Portfolio Management (APM) Analyst I provides advanced support for the management of an organization's software application portfolio starting from planning, budgeting, funding, intake, deployment, utilization, optimization, and maintenance of an application through end of life, retirement/decommission, and removal from the environment. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of Application Portfolio Management principles to support initiatives including inventory management, intake, rationalization, decommissioning, and data retention/archiving.

Key Responsibilities

Tracks an organization's software applications and related assets using various inventory management and tracking tools. Assesses the functionalities of new applications to determine if they meet defined requirements and provide necessary capabilities. Identifies applications that provide similar or overlapping functionalities as part of application rationalization. Facilitates the decommission of outdated, redundant, or underperforming applications while ensuring data integrity, compliance, and business continuity. Facilitates the extraction, transformation, and migration of historical data from legacy applications to new systems or archiving it for compliance and historical purposes. Stays updated on relevant regulations and ensuring application management practices adhere to legal and industry standards. Manages application and team documentation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and relevancy. Plans and executes application upgrades and security patches, ensuring applications stay patched for security vulnerabilities. Participates in and leads smaller analyst-led projects, taking on basic project management tasks such as scheduling calls, coordinating with team members, tracking follow-ups, and communicating project status. Maintains and expands relationships with software vendors, ensuring application teams receive top-tier support. Achieves necessary certifications and continues professional development. Works well independently, requesting help only when needed. Escalates appropriately after completing due diligence/proper investigation. Participates in the development and routine maintenance of detailed architecture documentation including system diagrams, and documentation of system dependency maps, integrations, and other critical components as needed to comply with disaster recovery, security, and operational requirements. Participates in the entire application lifecycle to include implementations, upgrades, and eventual decommissioning and data archiving. Skills and Experience

Basic educational and experience requirements: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Healthcare Informatics, Computer Sciences, or a related field (relevant education and/or 8+ years’ industry experience). 3-5+ years’ experience in healthcare IT or equivalent IT application analyst position with degree requirement. Experience in executing ITIL-aligned service management processes, including Incident, Request, and Change Management. Proven analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and customer service abilities. Experience in managing application support and documentation.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Fundamental understanding of application portfolio management methodologies and frameworks
  • Experience with the technical aspects of applications, including its infrastructure, databases, integrations, dependencies, and underlying technologies
  • Experience in application lifecycle management from inception to retirement, and how to manage each stage effectively
  • Experience with tracking software applications and related assets within an inventory
  • Ability to assess software applications to determine whether they should be kept, replaced, retired, or consolidated as part of application rationalization
  • Ability to identify and assess applications for decommissioning based on criteria such as usage, relevance, costs, and strategic alignment
  • Experience with data retention policies and procedures for managing both physical and digital records
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate contract terms to identify costs and termination provisions
Additional Details
