We are Dotty, a startup Christian apparel brand, seeking an experienced Apparel Technical Designer / Garment Technologist to translate concepts into production-ready tech packs for overseas manufacturers, mainly in China. This is a freelance, project-based opportunity remote from anywhere.

A startup Christian apparel brand looking for an experienced Apparel Technical Designer / Garment Technologist to help turn our creative concepts into production-ready garments for overseas manufacturing, primarily with suppliers in China.
You’ll work closely with our creative team to translate design concepts, artwork, references, and garment ideas into clear and detailed technical specifications that manufacturers can accurately sample and produce.
This is a freelance, project-based opportunity, with potential for ongoing work as our collections grow.
Create detailed, factory-ready apparel tech packs
Produce technical flats showing front, back, and garment details
Develop measurement specifications, size charts, and grading
Specify fabric composition, GSM, colors, washes, finishes, and garment treatments
Detail garment construction, seams, stitching, ribbing, collars, cuffs, and hems
Prepare print, embroidery, and artwork placement specifications
Specify Pantone colors and production color references
Prepare Bills of Materials (BOM) covering fabrics, trims, labels, and accessories
Define neck labels, care labels, swing tags, and branding placements
Prepare packaging and folding specifications when required
Review supplier samples against approved tech packs
Provide technical fit, construction, and sample revision feedback
Identify potential production or construction issues before manufacturing
Communicate technical requirements clearly with overseas suppliers and factories
Maintain and update tech packs throughout sampling and production
Proven experience as an Apparel Technical Designer, Garment Technologist, or similar role
Strong experience creating production-ready tech packs
Direct experience working with apparel factories, preferably in China or Asia
Strong understanding of garment construction and manufacturing
Experience with T-shirts, hoodies, crewnecks, sweatshirts, streetwear, and cut-and-sew garments
Knowledge of fabrics, GSM, garment treatments, trims, and production processes
Experience with measurement specifications and garment grading
Understanding of screen printing, embroidery, puff print, high-density print, and other apparel decoration techniques
Ability to review samples and provide clear technical and fit feedback
Excellent attention to detail
Strong communication skills when working with designers and manufacturers
Experience with any of the following is preferred:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Excel / Google Sheets
Apparel tech pack or PLM software
CLO 3D or similar 3D apparel software is a plus

Our creative team will provide the design direction, artwork, visual references, garment inspiration, fit direction, branding assets, and product concepts.
Your role will be to translate these into accurate technical documentation that allows our manufacturing partners to sample and produce the final garments correctly.
