Job summary

Q2 HR Solutions is seeking a talented, creative Fashion Designer to join our young, dynamic team. You will develop fresh, commercially relevant designs for seasonal children’s collections, from concept and hand sketches to CADs, technical packs, sampling, fittings, and final styling, working closely with the Creative Director.

You will translate concepts into garments, collaborate across teams to develop color palettes, prints, and embellishments, prepare initial technical packs, and ensure fit

Job description

We are looking for a talented, creative, and innovative Fashion Designer to join the young creative team.

As a Fashion Designer, you will be responsible for developing fresh, commercially relevant, and visually compelling designs for our seasonal collections. From initial concept and hand sketches to CADs, technical packs, sampling, fittings, and final styling, you will work closely with our Creative Director and cross-functional teams to bring ideas to life.

The ideal candidate has a strong eye for fashion, color, proportion, and detail; a passion for children's fashion; excellent communication and collaboration skills; and the ability to translate creative concepts into well-executed garments.

What You'll Do

• Participate in brainstorming sessions to develop innovative design concepts aligned with the seasonal theme and brand direction.
• Research current fashion, color, print, and children's fashion trends.
• Collaborate with the creative team to interpret and execute the Creative Director's vision.
• Contribute ideas for color palettes, silhouettes, fabrics, prints, graphics, and embellishments.
• Present design concepts confidently to the team and incorporate feedback into refined designs.
• Create hand sketches for brainstorming, ideation, and concept development.
• Develop digital illustrations and CADs for collection development, styling presentations, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Prepare accurate and detailed designs for coordination with the Sample Department, MPCD, Visual, and Export Departments.
• Create and maintain Technical Packs to support the smooth development of styles from concept to sample.

3. Fabric Prints, Graphics & Embellishments

• Collaborate with graphic artists to develop seasonal prints, graphics, artworks, and embellishment concepts.
• Ensure artwork, colors, techniques, and applications are appropriate to the collection's cultural and seasonal theme.
• Coordinate with the team to secure Creative Director approval for prints, graphics, and embellishments.
• Complete required copyright documentation and ensure artworks are original and properly documented.
• Work closely with R&D and artists on lab dips and strike-offs to achieve accurate color matching and consistency.

4. Initial Technical Packs

• Assist in preparing initial technical packs with complete style specifications and construction details.
• Work closely with pattern makers on styles requiring draping, mock-ups, or special construction techniques.
• Clearly communicate garment details to the Sample Department to ensure accurate proto development.
• Ensure all necessary information is complete and accurate before proto-sampling.
• Participate in garment fittings with fitters and pattern makers.
• Provide clear, constructive, and timely feedback on fit, proportion, construction, and design details.
• Help identify and resolve fit and construction issues efficiently to minimize revisions.
• Ensure final garments remain true to the original design concept while meeting quality and fit requirements.

6. Forms, Emails & Meetings

• Assist in preparing and completing essential documentation, including AAG (At a Glance) and copyright forms.
• Prepare AAG materials with digital drawings, style information, and relevant details for all departments.
• Participate actively in FCS meetings and provide input on styles, fabrics, construction, embellishments, and potential cost-saving opportunities.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams and departments throughout the development process.

7. Styling

• Develop styling concepts that reflect current fashion trends while maintaining the unique identity of Gingersnaps / Just G.
• Ensure styling is appropriate for the target children's market and consistent with the seasonal collection theme.
• Collaborate with the creative and merchandising teams to achieve a cohesive collection from design through presentation.

Education

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, or a related field.

Skills & Qualifications

• Strong fashion sense and a genuine passion for children's fashion.
• Up-to-date knowledge of fashion, color, textile, and design trends.
• Proficiency in CorelDRAW and Adobe Illustrator or comparable CAD/design software.
• Strong understanding of garment proportions, pattern making, construction, and sewing.
• Good knowledge of fabrics, prints, embellishments, and garment finishing.
• Ability to create both manual fashion illustrations and digital CADs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Strong communication, presentation, organizational, and teamwork skills.
• Highly creative, detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work within deadlines.
• Ability to take direction while also bringing fresh and innovative ideas to the team.
• Experience designing children's clothing, locally or internationally, is a strong advantage.
