Job summary

OpenAI's Forward Deployed Engineering team leads complex end-to-end deployments of frontier models in production for strategic customers. You will own discovery, scoping, system design, build, and rollout, partnering with customer engineers and domain teams.

This Madrid-based role uses a hybrid model (3 days in the office). Relocation assistance is provided, and travel up to 50% is required as you engage with global customers and deployments.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of engineering or technical deployment experience, including customer-facing work.
• Professional fluency in Spanish and English is required for Spanish-speaking customers.
• Scoped and delivered complex systems in fast-moving or ambiguous environments.
• Write and review production-grade code across frontend and backend using Python, JavaScript, or comparable stacks.
• Built or deployed systems powered by LLMs or generative models and understood model impact on product experience.
• Ability to simplify complexity and make fast, sound decisions under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Own technical delivery across deployments from prototype to stable production.
• Build full-stack systems that deliver customer value and sharpen learning.
• Embed with customer teams, understand needs, and guide adoption of built solutions.
• Scope work, sequence delivery, and remove blockers early.
• Make trade-offs between scope, speed and quality, and adjust plans to protect delivery.
• Contribute directly in code when progress or clarity depends on it.
• Codify working patterns into tools or playbooks for reuse.
• Share field feedback to improve research, product, and model roadmaps.
• Maintain momentum through clear follow-through with teams.
