Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA desirable.
  • Minimum 3 years of financial accounting and reporting experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in education or non‑profit sector preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing the accounting department, including recruitment, training, and performance management.
  • Overseeing the preparation and accuracy of financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Managing the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reconciliation processes.
  • Conducting regular financial analysis and providing insights to support management decision-making.
  • Ensuring compliance with tax regulations, audit requirements, and statutory obligations.
  • Coordinating with external auditors and preparing required documentation for audit processes.
  • Developing and monitoring departmental budgets and financial performance metrics.
  • Implementing accounting software systems and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for senior management and stakeholders.

About the role

The Asian Institute of Maritime Studies is seeking an experienced and strategic Accounting Head to lead our financial accounting and reporting function. This is a full-time position based in Pasay City, Metro Manila. As Accounting Head, you will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations. This role is pivotal to the Institute's financial governance and will report directly to senior management, playing a key part in supporting the organisation's strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities
  • Leading and managing the accounting department, including recruitment, training, and performance management of accounting staff
  • Overseeing the preparation and accuracy of financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards
  • Managing the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reconciliation processes
  • Conducting regular financial analysis and providing insights to support management decision-making
  • Ensuring compliance with tax regulations, audit requirements, and relevant statutory obligations
  • Coordinating with external auditors and preparing required documentation for audit processes

What we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional accounting qualifications (CPA or equivalent) are highly desirable
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in financial accounting and reporting, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership capacity
  • Demonstrated expertise in preparing financial statements and compliance with accounting standards
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and audit procedures
  • Proficiency with accounting software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to motivate and develop team members
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Experience in the education or non-profit sector would be advantageous
  • Familiarity with Philippine tax regulations and financial reporting requirements is preferred
