We are seeking an adaptable, tech-forward Junior Accountant to prepare tax returns, activity statements, and general ledger reconciliations for Australian client entities. You will manage AASB-compliant financial reports, Division 7A loans, CGT calculations, and statutory filings using Xero software and modern AI-driven productivity tools.
Your Impact
- Taxation & Compliance Filings: Prepare tax returns for individuals, sole traders, companies, and trusts in Xero Tax, alongside Business Activity Statements (BAS), IAS, PAYG instalments, FBT calculations, and superannuation contribution cap monitoring.
- AASB Financial Reporting & Workpapers: Complete Xero Workpapers, adjust trial balances to comply with Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) frameworks, and maintain franking accounts, Division 7A loan reconciliations, and Capital Gains Tax (CGT) schedules.
- General Ledger & Bookkeeping Hygiene: Perform bank reconciliations, AR/AP management, fixed asset register maintenance, and balance sheet reviews to ensure GST treatment and ledger accuracy.
- ATO Reconciliations & System Optimization: Reconcile ATO Integrated Client Accounts for GST, interest, and penalties while leveraging Xero partner ecosystems (Hubdoc, Syft, XPM) and AI tools to continuously improve workflow efficiency.
What You Bring
- Education & Certifications: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field; Xero Professional (Level 2) Certification or above; progress toward CA/CPA qualifications is highly regarded.
- The Experience: 2+ years of hands-on experience preparing Australian tax returns and managing bookkeeping within an Australian accounting practice environment (SMSF exposure is a plus).
- Technical Mastery: Deep proficiency with Xero, Xero Tax, and Xero Workpapers; experience with AASB standards, Division 7A, CGT, and franking accounts; intermediate Excel and MS Teams/Outlook capabilities.
- Core Competencies: Sense of urgency, openness to early-adopting new technologies (including AI), strict commitment to data security and client privacy, and superior written and verbal English communication.
