The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a Legal Intern to assist CIP's Legal Department in Lima, Peru. The role focuses on supporting data entry, document management, and research on legal and regulatory topics under supervision.

Ideal candidates are final-year or recent graduates in Law, International Relations, or Political Science, with strong academic standing and confidentiality awareness. Proficiency in MS Word/Excel and Spanish is required, English is a plus.

Formación

  • Final-year or recent graduate in Law, International Relations, Political Science, or related field.
  • Ranked in the upper third of their faculty (mandatory).
  • No prior professional experience required; internship or academic exposure to contracts/administrative law is a plus.
  • Intermediate level of MS Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • Intermediate level in English; fluent Spanish.

Responsabilidades

  • Assist with data entry and updates to general document logs and template libraries.
  • Research publicly available legal, regulatory, governance, and institutional matters and prepare summaries under supervision.
  • Help schedule and coordinate Legal Unit meetings and trainings.
  • Support digitization and basic archiving of non-sensitive historical legal documents.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Legal team as assigned.
  • Maintain contract trackers and legal request logs, and assist in workload reporting data.
  • Update matter status information and assist in organizing legal templates and repositories.

Job Description

The International Potato Center (CIP) is looking for one (1) Legal Intern to provide support to Legal Department in Lima, Peru. About CIP : CIP is part of the CGIAR global research partnership committed to transforming food, land, and water systems into a climate crisis. CIP’s mission is to develop and share science-based innovations in potato, sweetpotato , and other root and tuber crops. CIP partners with organizations in over 20 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to strengthen agri-food systems and provide economic, social, and nutritional benefits, especially for women and youth. Key responsibilities:

  • Support data entry and updates to non-confidential tracking spreadsheets (e.g., general document logs, template libraries).
  • Conduct preliminary research on publicly available legal, regulatory, governance, and institutional matters and prepare summaries under supervision.
  • Assist in scheduling and logistical coordination for Legal Unit meetings and training sessions.
  • Support the digitization and basic archiving of non-sensitive historical legal documentation.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Legal team as assigned.
  • Support the Legal team in maintaining contract trackers, legal request logs, and other Legal Services Unit monitoring tools.
  • Assist the Legal team in updating matter status information and preparing workload reporting data.
  • Assist in organizing and updating legal templates, clause libraries and repositories under supervision.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for legal training, workshops, meetings, and institutional legal initiatives, as assigned.
  • Assist with document organization, legal knowledge repositories, and the use of approved digital tools under supervision.
  • Comply in the performance of assigned tasks, with applicable national and international laws, regulations, and standards, including health and safety requirements.
Requirements

What are we looking for?

  • Currently in the final year of, or recently graduated in Law, International Relations, Political Science, or a related field.
  • Ranked in the upper third of their faculty (mandatory requirement).
  • No prior professional experience required; prior internship or academic exposure to contracts/administrative law is a plus.
  • Intermediate level of MS Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • Intermediate level in English (Advanced is a plus).
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Skill: Ensure confidentiality and ethical handling of information, even where access to sensitive matters is limited by design.
