Job summary

Larsen & Toubro in Oman seeks a Welding Supervisor to lead day-to-day welding on the shop floor, supervise welders, fitters, and helpers, and drive production targets safely and efficiently.

You will ensure compliance with WPS, drawings, prep, materials, consumables, equipment, and QA/QC coordination, with emphasis on toolbox talks and HSE in all work.

Qualifications

• Oversee welding activities and ensure adherence to procedures.
• Coordinate with QA/QC and planning teams.
• Ensure safety and compliance on site.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day welding on shop floor for jackets, topsides, and decks.
• Ensure welding is performed per Approved WPS, drawings, and weld maps.
• Plan and execute work per daily/weekly production plans.
• Ensure readiness of materials, consumables, equipment, and qualified welders.
• Allocate work to welders based on skill and qualification.
• Supervise welders, fitters, and helpers; monitor productivity and discipline.
• Coordinate with QA/QC for fit-up, visual inspection, and NDT clearance.
• Rectify welding defects and monitor repairs; ensure correct consumables usage.
• Monitor handling of electrodes, storage; ensure equipment operability and progress tracking.
• Identify delays and implement corrective actions; enforce HSE and toolbox talks.

• Welding Production Supervision
• Supervise day-to-day welding activities on shop floor including:
  • Structural welding (jackets, topsides, decks)
  • Fit-up and joint preparation
• Ensure welding is carried out as per:
  • Approved WPS (Welding Procedure Specification)
  • Applicable drawings and weld maps
  • Execute work as per daily/weekly plans issued by planning team.
  • Ensure readiness of:
    • Materials
    • Welding consumables
    • Equipment and tools
    • Qualified welders
• Allocate work to welders based on skill and qualification.
• Supervise welders, fitters, and helpers.
• Monitor manpower productivity and efficiency.
• Ensure proper discipline and work execution at site.
• Ensure proper fit-up and joint preparation before welding.
• Coordinate with QA/QC inspectors for:
  • Fit-up inspection
  • Visual inspection
  • NDT clearance
• Rectify welding defects and monitor repair work.
• Ensure correct usage of welding consumables (electrodes, wires, gases).
• Monitor proper handling of:
  • Electrodes (baking & holding)
  • Consumables storage
• Ensure welding machines and equipment are in working condition.
• Track welding progress (joints completed, inch-dia, tonnage).
• Achieve production targets as per schedule.
• Identify delays and take corrective measures.
• Ensure adherence to HSE requirements:
  • Hot work permits
  • Fire prevention measures
  • Safe welding/gas cutting practices
• Conduct toolbox talks and enforce safe work practices.
• Coordinate with:
  • Planning team (work targets and priorities)
  • QA/QC team (inspection readiness)
  • Stores (consumables availability)
