1. Welding Procedure Development
- Prepare and review:
- WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications)
- PQR (Procedure Qualification Records)
- Ensure procedures comply with applicable codes such as:
- ASME Section IX
- AWS D1.1
- API / ISO standards
- Coordinate procedure qualification tests and approvals.
2. Technical Support to Fabrication
- Provide technical guidance to welding supervisors and production teams.
- Resolve welding-related issues on shop floor.
- Interpret drawings, weld maps, and specifications.
3. Welder Qualification
- Plan and conduct welder qualification tests (WQT).
- Ensure welders are qualified in accordance with project and code requirements.
- Maintain welder qualification records and continuity logs.
4. Welding Consumables Control
- Specify and approve welding consumables (electrodes, wires, flux).
- Ensure proper storage, baking, and handling of consumables.
- Monitor usage and ensure compliance with procedures.
5. Welding Quality Assurance
- Coordinate with QA/QC team on:
- Fit-up inspections
- Visual inspections
- NDT requirements (RT, UT, MPI, DPI)
- Analyze weld defects and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor welding repair rates and improve quality performance.
6. Process Monitoring & Optimization
- Monitor welding parameters and efficiency.
- Optimize welding processes for:
- Productivity improvement
- Cost reduction
- Quality enhancement
- Support implementation of advanced welding techniques where applicable.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain welding documentation including:
- WPS/PQR records
- Welder qualification logs
- Welding traceability records
- Prepare reports on:
- Weld status
- Defect analysis
- Productivity metrics
