Job description

Job title: Senior Engineer, Turnaround – Stream OQ8 – Maintenance Department – Turnaround Section – Duqm, Oman.

Budget control: OPEX/CAPEX/Revenue as relevant. Reports to Head of Turnaround. May have direct reports.

Job Purpose

Provides strong professional technical and engineering expertise for turnaround schedule and shutdown maintenance works across OQ8, acting as Technical Service provider of execution of turnaround under technical standards set by TSD to maintain assets.

Responsibilities
  • Execute maintenance turnaround activities including shutdown works, equipment cleaning, inspection, repair and replacement works, and testing and commissioning.
  • Prepare required reports for monitoring and control of the execution phase.
  • Guide young engineers in turnaround execution matters to ensure maximum availability of plant, optimize cost, time, resource utilization, minimize downtime, and meet operational targets supporting gross margin and profitability.
  • Drive end‑to‑end planning of turnaround, involving material and contract planning, stakeholder management, coordination and resource optimization.
  • Conduct inspections, testing, repairs and replacements of equipment, vessels, piping and systems to identify damage, corrosion, leaks or wear.
  • Perform cleaning and decontamination of process equipment and systems to remove contaminants.
  • Replace catalysts to maintain efficiency and product quality.
  • Implement facility upgrades, including installation of new equipment, upgrading control systems, or integrating new technologies.
  • Repair or replace damaged or malfunctioning equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, heat exchangers, reactors and distillation columns.
  • Inspect and repair piping networks, valves, fittings and insulation to prevent heat loss or maintain temperature control.
  • Implement strict safety protocols, training personnel, adhering to permit‑to‑work systems and safety barriers.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, emissions monitoring and pollution control measures.
  • Develop a comprehensive turnaround plan with the Planning team, estimating resources and developing a timeline.
  • Procure necessary resources, including materials, equipment and personnel.
  • Prepare and evaluate tender bids, preparing recommendations and reports.
  • Lead execution of work ensuring safety, efficiency and regulatory compliance, following equipment manufacturers’ standards and procedures.
  • Develop work breakdown structures, recommend modifications and revisions for new work items.
  • Establish best maintenance practices and systems to optimize resources and enhance turnaround shutdown scheduled maintenance.
  • Proactively resolve issues during all phases of the schedule, from scope development to completion of turnaround activities.
  • Archive baseline and final schedules, conduct TA close‑out review, finalize close‑out report and lead lessons‑learned workshop.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, including maintenance teams, contractors and operations personnel to ensure smooth execution.
  • Monitor progress of the turnaround, provide regular updates to management, conduct meetings and prepare summary reports with daily updates.
  • Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with safety regulations and procedures.

  • External: Contractors, Vendors and Suppliers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation engineering or related field.
  • Black Belt Certification (preferred).
  • Excellent written, read and spoken English (required).
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience within Oil & Gas, Refinery or Petrochemical industry in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), SAP‑PM module, Primavera or MS Project.
  • Hands‑on experience executing multiple turnarounds involving complete process units.
  • Experience handling maintenance contracts and procurement.
  • Experience in planning, scheduling of turnaround and shutdown related jobs.
  • Familiar with material and international engineering applicable codes.
