Job summary

OQEP (through its Stakeholders) seeks a Senior Technical Safety Engineer to provide specialized safety engineering support for its Oman project delivery. You will identify and integrate safety requirements into designs, documents, and operation philosophies in line with international standards and the company HSSE framework.

Key activities include conducting hazard studies (HAZID/HAZOP/QRA), developing SIS and Fire & Gas philosophies, and contributing to MAH management and Safety Case

Qualifications

• 6+ years of relevant experience in technical safety engineering within upstream oil & gas, petrochemical, or refining industry.
• Experience supporting hazard identification and risk assessment studies (HAZID, HAZOP, QRA).
• Knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and functional safety standards (IEC 61508, IEC 61511).
• Familiarity with international standards including API, IEC, NFPA, IP.

Responsibilities

• Support technical safety activities across project delivery, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
• Contribute to hazard identification and risk assessment studies (HAZID/HAZOP/What-If/Bow-Tie).
• Develop and review Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Fire & Gas philosophies and related documentation.
• Perform quantitative and qualitative risk assessments including consequence modelling.
• Review design documents, P&IDs, and equipment datasheets from a safety perspective and propose risk-reducing modifications.
• Maintain Safety Cases and MAH registers for operated facilities and projects.
• Prepare safety documentation for regulatory submissions and authority approvals.
• Liaise with project engineers, contractors, and vendors on safety matters throughout the lifecycle.
