Job description

Goodman Masson is partnering with a new financial markets infrastructure venture under formation in Oman. Backed by prominent institutional investors, the business is building its operations from the ground up and is now hiring during the build phase.

This is a rare opportunity to join a business at the start of its journey, helping establish robust financial controls, reconciliation processes and operational risk management arrangements before the platform goes live.

The Role

We are looking for a Reconciliations Lead to join the Operations Control function, taking ownership of the organisation's reconciliation activities and ensuring financial records are accurate, complete and reconciled within agreed deadlines.

The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years' experience in reconciliations, with a strong understanding of cash reconciliations, ideally gained within financial services or a regulated environment. Candidates with a background in financial control or risk who have relevant reconciliation experience will also be considered.

You will lead the daily, monthly and periodic reconciliation processes, investigating discrepancies, resolving outstanding breaks and ensuring appropriate controls are maintained. You will also supervise and develop a Reconciliation Analyst, helping establish a robust control environment to support the platform's operational integrity.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a critical control function within a new financial markets infrastructure business.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and oversee daily, monthly and periodic reconciliation processes, ensuring all relevant accounts and records are reconciled accurately and on time.
  • Perform oversight of cash reconciliations, identifying discrepancies between internal records and external bank or counterparty statements.
  • Investigate, manage and resolve reconciliation breaks, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented.
  • Monitor outstanding exceptions and aged breaks, escalating material or unresolved issues appropriately.
  • Supervise, coach and develop the Reconciliation Analyst, allocating workloads and reviewing outputs to maintain high standards of accuracy.
  • Establish, maintain and improve reconciliation procedures and controls in line with internal policies and regulatory expectations.
  • Prepare reconciliation status reports and ageing analyses for management, highlighting outstanding items, operational risks and control weaknesses.
  • Ensure appropriate supporting evidence, documentation and sign-offs are maintained across reconciliation activities.
  • Work closely with Finance, Treasury, Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit to resolve discrepancies and strengthen the control environment.
  • Liaise with banks, custodians, counterparties, service providers and external auditors to investigate and resolve reconciliation differences.
  • Support the development of effective reconciliation processes and controls as the business moves from its build phase into live operations.
What You’ll Bring
  • 3–5 years' relevant experience in reconciliations, financial operations, financial control or a related risk and control function.
  • Previous hands-on reconciliation experience, with a strong understanding of cash reconciliations preferred.
  • Experience investigating and resolving reconciliation breaks, discrepancies and outstanding exceptions.
  • Understanding of financial operations, accounting entries and internal control frameworks.
  • Experience working within financial services, banking or another regulated environment.
  • Proficiency in reconciliation and financial systems, with advanced spreadsheet skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to identify operational risks, investigate root causes and elevate issues appropriately.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external counterparties.
  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

The following would be particularly valuable:

  • financial market infrastructure, such as a central securities depository, central counterparty, exchange or settlement system.
  • Experience reconciling cash accounts, bank statements, settlement balances or financial transactions.
  • A background in financial control, operational risk or another control-focused financial operations function, supported by practical reconciliation experience.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring or reviewing the work of junior team members.
  • A recognised professional accounting or finance qualification.
  • Familiarity with financial market operations, settlement processes and the importance of accurate financial records.
  • Knowledge of Arabic, in addition to English.
