Job summary

Renardet SA & Partners seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the Technical Advisory Team on a utility-scale Solar IPP project in the GCC. You will provide technical input across the development and procurement process, review studies, assess bid submissions and engage in clarifications and negotiations.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years in power, renewables, or infrastructure, and experience with Solar IPP projects is highly desirable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience in power generation, renewables, industrial, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in utility-scale Solar PV / Solar IPP projects is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and equipment for large-scale power generation.
  • Experience in technical advisory, engineering review, feasibility/development studies, tender documentation or EPC technical evaluation.
  • Experience reviewing technical specifications, performance requirements, equipment proposals and contractor submissions.
  • Good understanding of multidisciplinary interfaces and project risk allocation.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the Technical Advisory Team for a utility-scale Solar Independent Power Producer (IPP) project. The Mechanical Engineer will provide specialist technical input throughout the project development and competitive procurement process, including preparation of technical requirements, review of studies and project documentation, technical evaluation of bidder proposals, clarifications and support during negotiations. Further requirements for this position are as follows:

  • Provide mechanical engineering input to the Project Definition Report (PDR) and technical concept development for the Solar IPP.
  • Review the proposed plant configuration and identify mechanical requirements and interfaces affecting project development.
  • Provide technical input to the development of the Minimum Functional Specifications, technical schedules, performance requirements and material/equipment specifications for the RFP.
  • Review mechanical aspects of proposed solar plant technologies, auxiliary systems and associated infrastructure as applicable to the project.
  • Review relevant site studies and technical reports and advise on mechanical implications, constraints and risks.
  • Assess the constructability, maintainability and operational requirements of proposed mechanical systems and facilities.
  • Provide technical input to the identification and allocation of technical risks and proposed mitigation measures.
  • Review and assess technical qualifications and capabilities of prospective bidders and EPC Contractors.
  • Participate in the technical evaluation of bidder submissions, including review of proposed equipment, systems, performance guarantees and compliance with the RFP requirements.
  • Prepare and respond to technical clarifications raised by bidders during the RFQ/RFP process.
  • Support the Advisory Team in technical discussions and negotiations with shortlisted/preferred bidders.
  • Provide mechanical engineering input to relevant Project Agreements, including technical schedules and performance requirements.
  • Review proposed deviations, alternative technical solutions and technology selections and provide recommendations to PWP.
  • Participate in technical meetings, workshops and site visits with PWP, bidders, EPC Contractors, authorities and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate mechanical requirements with electrical, civil, architectural, environmental, HSE and other technical disciplines.
  • Contribute to technical reports, recommendations, bid evaluation reports, project documentation and lessons learned.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in power generation, renewable energy, industrial or major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in utility-scale Solar PV / Solar IPP projects is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and equipment associated with large-scale power generation projects.
  • Experience in technical advisory, engineering review, feasibility/development studies, tender documentation or EPC technical evaluation.
  • Experience reviewing technical specifications, performance requirements, equipment proposals and contractor submissions.
  • Good understanding of multidisciplinary interfaces and project risk allocation.
  • Experience supporting technical bid evaluations and bidder clarifications is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, reporting and technical writing skills.
  • Professional engineering registration/certification is an advantage

Experience working on Solar IPP, power generation or renewable energy projects in Oman or the GCC, with familiarity with PWP procurement processes and the technical requirements of utility-scale power projects.
