Job summary

SSH is seeking an experienced Lead Wet Utilities Engineer to lead the technical design and delivery of potable water, wastewater, stormwater and irrigation networks across major projects in Oman. You will provide technical leadership to the wet utilities team and collaborate with project managers, clients and authorities throughout the design lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Typically 12+ years of relevant experience in wet utilities/infrastructure design, preferably within a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy.
• Strong technical expertise across potable water, wastewater/sewerage, stormwater and irrigation networks.
• Proven experience leading the design delivery of wet utilities for large-scale infrastructure, masterplanning, mixed-use, residential or major urban development projects.
• Experience working on projects in Oman and/or the wider GCC region is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of authority coordination, design approval processes and infrastructure interfaces.
• Experience across the full design lifecycle, including concept, preliminary, detailed design and construction support.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic modelling and infrastructure design software such as WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, StormCAD, Civil 3D or equivalent.
• Good understanding of BIM and digital multidisciplinary coordination.
• Strong technical report writing, presentation and communication skills.
• Professional accreditation such as Chartered Engineer, PE or equivalent would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, design and delivery of wet utility networks, including potable water, wastewater/sewerage, stormwater drainage and irrigation systems.
• Take technical ownership of wet utilities packages from concept and preliminary design through detailed design, tender documentation and construction support.
• Lead the development and review of utility masterplans, network layouts, hydraulic models, calculations, technical reports, specifications and drawings.
• Undertake and review hydraulic modelling and network analysis, ensuring systems are appropriately sized, resilient and technically optimised.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable Oman authority requirements, international codes and standards, client requirements and project specifications.
• Coordinate closely with roads, highways, structures, landscape, dry utilities and other infrastructure disciplines to ensure fully integrated designs.
• Manage interfaces with existing and proposed infrastructure, including utility crossings, connections, diversions and protection requirements.
• Lead technical reviews and provide QA/QC oversight of wet utilities deliverables.
• Coordinate technical submissions and approvals with clients, stakeholders, utility providers and relevant government authorities.
• Attend and lead technical workshops, multidisciplinary coordination meetings and client meetings as required.
• Identify design risks, constraints and constructability issues and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Drive value engineering and design optimisation while maintaining required performance, quality and regulatory compliance.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring and day-to-day leadership to engineers, designers and BIM/CAD resources.
• Manage discipline deliverables and inputs to ensure alignment with overall project programme and delivery requirements.
• Support tender and construction stages through technical clarifications, RFIs, review of contractor submissions and resolution of design-related issues.
• Support the development of technical proposals, scopes of work, fee inputs and resource requirements when required.
