Job description

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.

We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

As a Workspace Experience Manager within the Land and Property team, part of the Infrastructure and Investment Group(IIG), you will lead the regional delivery of workspace experience initiatives across Health New Zealand's non-clinical office environments.

You’ll bring strategy and delivery together to create well planned workplaces that are practical, flexible and responsive to the needs of our people, assessing existing work environments, identifying opportunities to optimise space and help shape regional workspace plans that align with national frameworks, policies and initiatives.

Working with regional stakeholders and end user teams, you will turn changing organisational needs into practical and considered workspace solutions. This will include developing project briefs and concepts, contributing to business cases and supporting approved upgrades and workplace changes alongside infrastructure delivery teams.

You will also use workspace metrics, occupancy insights and accommodation data to support effective planning and informed decision-making.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The IIG team are focused on delivering high-impact infrastructure investments that support the transformation of New Zealand's health system. Giving support, oversight and assurance across projects and programmes, they understand that safe, fit for purpose health facilities, sites and equipment are essential for a well-functioning health system that improves the health of all New Zealanders.

The Workspace Experience function works across Health New Zealand's non-clinical office portfolio, partnering with Property, regional project delivery, Digital Services, asset and facilities management, finance, people and culture, and health and safety teams. The role also works with external partners, including landlords, architects, designers, contractors and service providers.

About you

You are an experienced workspace, property, facilities, design or change professional who understands how well-planned environments can support people, performance and organisational outcomes.

You bring a strategic mindset alongside the practical judgement needed to move workplace initiatives from early assessment and planning through to delivery. Comfortable working with data and detail, you can identify gaps, evaluate options and translate workspace requirements into clear plans, briefs and recommendations.

You can work confidently with senior leaders, regional teams and end users, listening carefully to different perspectives while keeping broader organisational priorities in view. You can communicate clearly, navigate change constructively and adapt your approach as requirements evolve.

This is an opportunity to help shape workplace environments across a large and complex national organisation, creating practical solutions that support our people and contribute to better health outcomes for communities across Aotearoa.

You Will Bring

  • A tertiary qualification in a property-related discipline.
  • At least 10 years' experience across workplace design, facilities, change management or a related field.
  • Experience delivering workspace change and churn projects for a range of end-user groups.
  • The ability to build and manage effective relationships with senior stakeholders and diverse end-user groups.
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking, with sound judgement and attention to detail.
  • Experience developing workspace plans, project briefs, concepts or supporting business cases.
  • An understanding of occupancy forecasting, accommodation planning and space-planning tools or systems.
  • Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills.
  • Confidence using Microsoft tools, particularly Excel or Power BI.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices within workplace or property environments.
  • The flexibility to respond to changing priorities while maintaining accountability for delivery.
