Job summary

Select Recruitment – Dunedin, South Island is seeking a Wigmaker for a hands-on role where craftsmanship meets creativity in a specialist sewing and manufacturing environment.

You will join a supportive, close-knit production team, learn intricate wigmaking techniques, and contribute to producing bespoke handmade wigs that improve clients' confidence. Monday to Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm, with long-term career development and a collaborative workplace.

Qualifications

  • Proven sewing experience, either professionally or as a hobby.
  • High attention to detail and patience for intricate work.
  • Willingness to learn a specialised wigmaking trade.
  • Strong communication and ability to work in a team.
  • Interest in crafts and handiwork is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and develop specialist wigmaking skills through hands-on training.
  • Perform detailed sewing and assembly work with accuracy and care.
  • Contribute to the production of high-quality, custom-made wigs.

About the Role

As part of a skilled production team, you will be trained in the intricate process of wigmaking, learning techniques that combine precision, artistry, and quality workmanship.

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with their hands and takes pride in producing high-quality work.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Proven sewing experience, either professionally or as a hobby
  • An interest in crafts such as embroidery, jewellery making, soft furnishings, quilting, dressmaking, hair and beauty, or similar creative pursuits
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of patience
  • A willingness to learn a specialised trade skill
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Previous manufacturing or production experience (advantageous but not essential)
  • A commitment to building a long‑term career within a niche industry
