Job summary

Trade Assist is seeking Welders for projects around the Taranaki region. Competitive hourly rates and ongoing opportunities for qualified applicants with experience are offered.

Roles include reading blueprints, preparing stock, cutting, forming, welding and finishing. Must have 2+ years' experience or NZQF level 5, full NZ driver’s licence, and be available for nights and weekends. Pre-employment drug test and MOJ clearance required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
• NZQF Level 5 qualification or above
• Full NZ driver's licence
• Willingness to work nights/weekends as required
• Pre-employment drug test required
• MOJ clearance
• Flexible to work in nearby regions

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints, drawings and specs to establish job requirements
• Prepare metal stock and surfaces for welding
• Cut metal using hand tools, flame-cutting torches and machines
• Form and bend metal sections and pipes with tools and heating
• Position parts for joining with measuring instruments
• Weld using various techniques, bolt and rivet as needed
• Inspect welds for width, penetration and accuracy
• Finish products by cleaning, polishing and treating surfaces
• Clean and smooth welds by filing, chiselling and grinding
• Order materials from suppliers as required
• Work on tasks outside the workshop when needed

• Choosing, cleaning and preparing metal stock
• Cutting marked-out metal sections and shapes with hand tools, flame-cutting torches and metal-cutting machines
• Forming and bending metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, as well as heating and hammering
• Positioning and aligning parts for joining with hand tools and measuring instruments
• Fusing metal sections using a range of welding techniques, along with bolting and riveting
• Checking welds for bead width, penetration and accuracy
• Finishing products through cleaning, polishing, filing and treatment in acidic solutions
• Smoothing and cleaning welds by filing, chiselling and grinding
• Ordering and collecting the required materials from suppliers when needed
• Carrying out tasks outside the workshop when required

Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years' relevant work experience, or a NZQF level 5 qualifications or above
• A full driver's licence
• Availability to work night shifts and early-morning starts (from 6am) when required
• Availability to work weekends when required
• A professional, punctual, motivated and proactive approach, with a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills (including English)
• Pre-employment drug test required
• Clean MOJ required
• Flexibility to work in nearby regions and complete assignments as required
